Tonight’s Show: My encounters

A listener writes “Wes, I have had a four encounters with Sasquatch. My first was in 1985 when hunting near Harrisonburg, VA. I was in a tree, it was 4:30 am, it was pitch black, something walked up to the tree I was in, walked around it a couple of times then started shaking the tree. I worked the lever on my 45/70 and chambered a round. whatever it was took off on a dead run then stopped about a hundred yards out made three very loud barks then walked away. I never saw what it was it was to dark.

1987 same area five miles north. I was in a tree tied in enjoying the weather. I was 35 feet up set off a well used game trail. I saw a doe and her yearling trot down the trip stop look behind them then take off with tails in the air. I thought either a big buck was following them or another hunter was in the area. Five minutes later a young sasquatch came creeping through about 10 yards off the game train following the deer. I believe it was pushing the deer. this animal moved through the woods without making a sound! It never saw me or winded me. after it passed through i rappelled down and eased out.

2013 A good friend of mine whom I told about my encounters asked me to help a young couple from his church. They were having sasquatch troubles on the place. He and I went to there home which is out in the country, sasquatch had taken all of there chickens and had killed some of there rabbits and one of there dogs. the husband works nights and the wife is a stay at home mom with a 8 month old at the time. We tried extra motion lights around the house. had two bugger lights put up. game cameras placed around. the husband got fed up and put a 4×4 sheet of plywood full of drywall screws on the ground in front of there bay window where the animals would stand to look into the house. that night the animal stepped on the plywood spiking its left foot it then dropped down on all fours and stuck its right hand. the animal went into a rage stood up cocked both arms back and shattered the bay window. The wife and child were the only ones home. She got the shotgun I left for them loaded with Dragons Breath shells which shoot a lot of fire and sparks. The animal ran off. the husband called me while he was speeding home and called the sheriffs. I got up and headed there as well. when I got there an hour later the sheriff and fire and rescue were there. There was blood on the plywood from the foot and hand. there was blood on the broken glass. and there was one highly pissed wife. she walked up to me on front of the sheriff and said “I don’t care what you have to do just make these things go away!” Thee sheriff took me to the side and asked what was going on. I told him what I knew. he would not believe it we looked at the blood print on the plywood it measured 19 inches long. I measured from the bottom of the window sill to the ground which was 6.5 feet. I asked the sheriff what animal around here has a 19 inch long foot that stands between8 to 10 foot tall, he just looked at me with a dumb look on his face. They wrote it up as a bear attack.

I called a friend of mine who is a gunsmith/collector like me. I told him what had happened. he came up from NC with a german MG 42. I brought my full auto AK 47 and we introduce the local Sasquatch gentry to the mad minute. after a few thousand rounds of full metal jacket and tracer rounds the Sasquatch left. They have not come back.

2016 A week before thanks giving in gold vain VA my wife and I had a Sasquatch cross the road in front of us she was driving and had to stop or we would of hit it. the next week we were there I walked the area and found a trail, tree breaks and a possible foot print. I’m keeping a close eye out because this is close to my wife parents place.”

I do not normally chime in on these but after reading this 2 things stand out to me.
    1. He repelled down from his deer stand. That’s odd.
    2. A full automatic AK. I would challenge him on that one. Ask him what permits he needed to get that. If he doesn’t have a permit for full auto he’s nuts.

    • Trent M

Yeah that doesn’t hit me as odd as I have several friends that have payed the tax and have either full auto weapons or suppressors or both. I knew 2 people that had MG42s when I was a re-enactor.

This was before self climbing tree stands were popular. I would climb trees using spikes and harness. I repel down because its faster and safer than climbing down.
In Virginia if you can legally buy a firearm you can purchase a full auto as long as you fill out the extra paper work, go through another back ground check, and pay a 200.00 stamp tax.
Yes I have been accused of being nuts. (I don’t think so I just live my life with no regrets!)

I really appreciated your encounters. I also live in VA – about hour and a half north east of Harrisonburg (Culpeper) . I have been trying for some time to find some legitimate encounters from the state but to be honest it has been challenging to find anything detailed or reputable. I was impressed with your interview and was wondering if you would be willing to converse with me about it some time – my e-mail is zjohnnichols@me.com – hope to hear from you – thanks!

A class 2 Mfr can have full auto firearms as can any individual in his state. One just has to fill out a form and pay $200 tax and the cost of the gun. This gun wielding Sasquatch hunter is my new hero. Its about time someone brought out some firepower.

An MG42 is a scary sounding gun it can fire like 1200 rds a minute (rate anyway) and is loud as hell. (8mm or sometimes converted to 308! Id like to see a Sasquatch terrorize a family again afer facing that firepower : )

I’m getting my snacks ready for this story!!!!

PS Dragons breath isn’t lethal , I’ve shot it, its just showers sparks and isn’t powerful, but it does make a huge visual impression and Sasquatch probably had to change his pants after getting impalied by screws and firestormed : )

The MG34 is around 900 rounds per minute. When the 42 came out the cycle rate went up to 1100 to 1500 rounds per minute. They had problems with the 42 firing out of battery so the redesigned the bolt which slowed it down to 900 RPM. Your right Dragons Breath is not lethal but it does give a great light show plus it is LOUD!

I am interested in hearing this guy, in person-sort of,lol.
He sounds like he has had a lot of experiences. Wonder why some folks do and others never will?

If you think you have these animals in your area go into the woods and just walk slowly stop look around (up in the trees as well). don’t try to make calls, tree knocks, or leave food out just walk around. Observe your surroundings do not be in a hurry. Do not go alone! Do not go unarmed! Its been my experience that most sightings are by accident. These animals are masters of there environment. If you get a bad feeling leave the woods calmly do not press your luck.

Looking forward to it! I’ve often thought that camp in Northern Ontario was wrecked for the same reason….Squatch in a rage that someone set a trap for it. ” Damn puny humans are messin’ with me!!!!” I wish we could hear from the woman directly.

Man I hope some of the tissue left on that screw board was collected. Seems that method has succeeded twice now in gathering material from these creatures.

    • J b

Nothing was collected. I have no desire to get on the prove Sasquatch is real merry-go-round. All I wanted was to make these animals go away and let that family be.

~Thanks JB, can’t wait to hear this one. I tell you, placing the screw-boards was a great idea. Thanks for telling your experiences to Wes.

I live in the Shenandoah valley, not far from Harrisonburg. It is exciting to here another series of encounters in this area. Lake Anna, Culpeper and the Skyline on the Blueridge Parkway have all had several sightings over the last few years. Good retelling of the encounters. Bigfoot in the Shenandoah ?Appreciated it very much Wes.
