I will be welcoming both Johnny and Aaron to the show. Johnny had an encounter as a child and also recently spoke to his friends father who talked about being on Mt. St. Helens after it blew up and seeing military personal in the same area as the Sasquatch.
Aaron writes “Hi, My name is Aaron, I had emailed you previously in regards to a sighting that had occurred in Colorado. At the time I was traveling on the road and couldn’t go into great detail about this encounter since I was driving and listening to the show, and finally got the guts to tell my story.
The encounter occurred in Colorado, & was back in June of 2006, in Gunnison Valley at the Black Canyon while hiking. Me and a friend decided the day before to take a quick trip up there and do some hiking. We got up there early around 6:30am just before the sun was coming up. We finally got there and found a place to park, and got our packs setup, and had something to eat at the truck. When we finally finished getting setup we started our hike into the trail head, we were moving slow because I had a bad ankle sprain 3 months previous and wasn’t as fast or limber as I normally would be.
It wasn’t until 11:00am that we were far enough into the hike that we couldn’t see anymore “off” trails on this hike. We finally made it about 5 miles in and came up to a small river that ran off into a lake on the side of a mountain valley. The lake is around 100 yards across with a lot of huge boulders all around it. Now when I say huge boulders, I mean “huge”, they are the same size as of a small home. The whole purpose of this hike was to go to this lake so we could do some fly-fishing up there. As we got setup to start fishing my buddy started at one side of the lake, and I went directly across to the other side.
When I finally made it over to the other side and climbed over the huge boulders I got my fly-rod out and started to fish. I literally wasn’t there for more than 15 minutes, and all of a sudden, I started to smell this awful, awful, smell! It smelled like a mix of something dead, a skunk, and rotten eggs, even like some ammonia or a sulfur smell. I thought there might have been a geyser or something like that because of the smell. I even thought that somehow I had some stink-bait get into my back pack, and had spilled, because the smell was intense! Because of the smell I started to move back over to the side where my friend was fishing, and when I had got on top of a boulder there and when my back was turned to where I was fishing, I heard a whoop, which sounded really quick, and like it came from something with big lungs.
I turned around to see what it was and didn’t see anything. It was at this time I got really creeped out because I thought I was being watched. No matter where I go, I always “carry”, especially when I go out into the wilderness camping or hiking, so I pulled out my weapon, which is a 1911 .45 cal. I made my way back over to my buddy and told him if he had smelled anything bad over here? Like something dead or rotten. He said “no”, but asked why I had my gun out, I said I don’t know, I just got this weird feeling I was in danger, or being watched over there, he just kind of smirked and was changing the fly on his leader, I told him that on the other side there’s this terrible smell.
It wasn’t until that moment I looked back over at the same spot I was at, and seen this dark figure come from around a big boulder that was right next to the spot I was fishing. It was hunched over like it was trying not to be seen, it started to get down all fours on the edge of the water and looked like it was sniffing around at the ground but in real quick motions. I couldn’t tell exactly what it was, but I knew it wasn’t a bear, because it was too big, and came from around the big boulder on two legs.
I told my friend “what the hell is that?” I looked at my buddy and his face was pale white. This thing finished smelling whatever it was smelling and crawled back behind the boulder and was gone! Just as quick as it appeared! I told my friend I didn’t know what it is was but I am getting out of here. In my gut I had a feeling what it was but didn’t want to admit it. We finally left the lake and hiked back to the truck, we never said two words to each other the whole hike back, and the drive back home. My buddy won’t talk about it to this day, he just changes the subject when I bring it back up and doesn’t want to talk about it. I personally just want some kind of closure on what we had seen. I’ve been listening to your show for a couple months now and really like it because it makes me feel like I am not the only person that has experienced this creature, and I am not crazy! Thanks for reading my encounter, and hope you enjoyed reading my experience.”

Johnny writes “Hey Wes I’m a big fan of the show and want to say I love it. I was afraid to email you as my story is from my friend’s father who was in the military.
This man isn’t one of those type of guys to make things up and to be honest he didn’t want to tell me the story but his son convinced him to. Well back when the whole Mount St. Helens eruption and the military was called in to help he was one of them. He said at night he would hear terrible screams like someone was being burned alive but the screams never stopped on and off. So the story goes he was called up to a section of the mountain and was told this mission was classified. When he got to where he needed to be there were all this special military guys and Sasquatch there. He said it was almost like these I don’t know if it was Military or Men in Black type of people but it seemed like they were communicating with the Sasquatch and were actually speaking. He said there were more than one of them and there was no sort of aggression as they seemed to be working together.
Now when I first heard this years ago I was confused to say the least. But maybe the government knows where there are and protects them in a way. But all I know is I believe this guy there was no smirk or smile when he told me the story more of an upset look when he told the story. Look all I know is I trust him don’t know cause I wasn’t there but it makes a little sense to me. My name is —————- if you have any questions give me a call at ———–. Cause I would love to hear what you think. Thanks and good luck with your shows.”

Thanks for sharing your experience! It seems that while the groups around Pikes Peak can be pretty tolerant the groups around Leadville and Estes Park are much more territorial and get aggressive much faster. I really believe that is a learned culture and comes from how the previous or historic contact with humans went. I believe if they were shot at and lost a family member they may be very aggressive where as if they had “live and let live” type encounters they may be more curious.

Very interesting theory Trent.

Yes… thank you Aaron for sharing your encounter. It sounds like you know you saw a Squatch and your friend doesn’t want to know. I feel sorry for people when it ruins their life. It would be better never to have seen or heard one.

You are not alone in this and not crazy. Some people dont have the same coping mechanisims . I had a similer encounter in the sierras 10 years ago , and anytime i try to talk to my friend about it , he becomes sick to his stomach
