They Were Chattering At Each Other

A listener writes “I’m not sure how or where to start so I’m just gonna tell you what happened. I was in the Navy stationed at NAS Whidbey Island and this happened in the fall of ’96. My friend (who grew up in Washington and Oregon) lived in Burlington and I would often go stay with him and his family instead of staying at the barracks.

I was (and still am) an avid hiker and backpacker and so one day I took a week of leave before a deployment and Ed suggested I go for a hike up a mountain a few miles from his house. We use to go up there to shoot guns and such but he said there were tons of trails up there. I remember there was a World of Outlaws type dirt racing track right at the base of the mountain but it was very secluded. Well I loaded up my pack, grabbed a few MRE’s, and my Mossberg 12 gauge and Rugger Super Blackhawk and ammunition and headed up the mountain. The first night was quiet and quite wonderful. The next day I hiked several miles on trails and 2 tracks but never really got into the woods. The one thing I found odd was the lack of any wildlife but I was never scared or uneasy. That 2nd night I built a little fire and enjoyed my supper, turned on some tunes and had a drink or 2.

I was in my tent in a dead sleep, shootgun next to my sleeping bag and .44 under my pillow. Fire was almost out and I was awakened by a rustling outside of my tent. I couldn’t make out what it was but whatever it was there were more than 1 because they were chattering at each other. Not loud but not quiet either. Just gibberish, a few snorts and sniffling but nothing loud. I slowly got my pistol and laid it on my chest and acted like stone. I was so scared! It couldn’t have lasted longer than a few minutes but it felt like hours. They finally left and I laid there like a bump on a log not moving, gun at the ready till dawn. Once the sun was up I packed up and got my ass off that mountain and never went back there again. Never saw anything and nothing was disturbed. I didn’t look for tracks because I had 1 goal in mind. I can’t say it was a Bigfoot but I also can’t say what it was. I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of Bigfoot, I’ve seen in search of and I watched The Legend of Boggy Creek. I love the research and have recently started listening to your Sasquach Chronicles on Youtube (I’m on episode 39). I’ve hiked my home in West Virginia and all over Kentucky where I grew up and live now. We have a 200 acre farm in very rural Kentucky and I love walking out back with my hammock and just spending the night listening to nature but I’ve never had another experience like that night on that mountain.

I’ve never ever told anybody about that. This is honestly the first time I’ve ever spoke of it but I still remember that night and those sounds…. Just remembering it sends cold chills down my spine. Please let me know what you think. Thanks and keep doing a great job on the show.”

‘Just gibberish, a few snorts and sniffling but nothing loud’-

Witness describes this exactly the way I’ve heard recordings before (I think Wes may have played some with the snorting). I would fall out hearing that!
