They claimed a UFO appeared, and they were taken inside and examined by strange creatures before being released, according to several reports.
This incident is known as the Pascagoula River UFO incident and is considered one of the most famous alleged alien abduction cases in the United States.

I remember at the time, as this case made the news as did the Travis Walton Case 2 years later. Of course both were stated by mostly poo pooed by the local and national perfect haired readers of the news.
