They Didn’t Know What It Could Have Been

A listener writes “This happened sometime in the mid 90’s. One night me and 4 other friends decided to go up to Memaloose road off of hwy 224 outside of Estacada. We lived inPortland. Memaloose road has been closed for years and recently due to fires a few years ago the entire hwy is closed now.

Back in the day my friends use to camp way up that road and had told me of a UFO sighting. This night we went in 2 seperate cars. The guy in front of us had a pretty souped up car and loved to drive fast and Memaloose was exceptionally windy so us 3 were left in the dust headed up this ridge. On the way the guy driving our car went off the road and we crashed pretty bad with the car upside down in a ditch. We were a little banged up but ok and the car was totalled.

We just started walking up the road in the dark cause we knew our racedriver pal was way up the road somewhere.

One guy I was with started getting freaked out saying that there was someone or something in the bushes next to us and he actually started yelling at it. We’d stop and listen but I heard nothing and he kept saying someone was in there next to the road. I just thought it was impossible and totally blew it off tripped out about our car crash.

Next thing we knew our racecar buddy was flying down the road at us and frantically told us to get in. They didn’t even ask us why we weren’t with our car because they were so scared of what THEY had seen. We told them that we had crashed our car but they didn’t seem to give a shit, they just wanted to get away.

As we all together drove back down the hill they said they were parked way up top waiting for us and some lights appeared in the trees. They didn’t know what it could have been because it was moving in the trees. As if somebody was out there with a headlamp but who? Well they couldn’t understand it and they got too scared to wanna be there anymore and beat it.

I thought it was worth mentioning because people always describe lights and bigfoot together and, well it was a strange and memorable night.”

“…we crashed pretty bad with the car upside down in a ditch.”

You’re lucky to be alive. A friend of mine ended up head first in a ditch, and died. As well, a social worker died the very same way on the way to a meeting (my friend was waiting for her at the facility he hoped to be released from after surgery). People die that way all the time. As I said, you’re lucky to be alive. All of you.

I never can understand why people put themselves in these positions. One car racing up a windy hill, the other head first in a ditch. If you don’t like the dark, animals in their habitat, or the paranormal, perhaps it’d be well to stay home and watch movies. Life is dangerous enough with out exacerbating it.
