The viral video shows miners from the Elga Coal Mine (in the Sakha Republic, Siberia) unveiling a statue-like figure holding a sword and shield, with what appear to be wings behind it—prompting dramatic claims of a “fallen angel” unearthed in permafrost.
The Strange Case Of The Russian Angel Statue
While I do not think it is a “Fallen Angel” the story behind the statue is strange. According to the owners of the mine. The Russian Military did retrieve the statue. However, since its retrieval, Irina Kichigina, press secretary at the mine, said the statue was not buried or newly discovered. Instead, it had merely been lying around at the worksite for years, entirely unrelated to the miners’ work. The miners then staged a hoax video to grab attention and make it go viral.
The statue has not been seen since it was retrieved by the military.
