I hated this interview by Brenton Sawin. His relentless questioning about the game warden’s partner. he kept refering to him as the dog. He was not a just a dog he was his partner, they worked and lived together, Partner saved his life. Brenton sounded callus in his questioning, uncaring and insensitive. Wes would have done a much better job!

Hi Melissa, the dog may be his partner but it does need to be reiterated that its an animal. When referring to the dog/partner it could be interpreted as a person dying, as much as I love my furry children it’s not anywhere near the same level as a person being killed.

I beg to differ. I for one have more compassion for animals than people. People can voice their feelings and choose their next step. A dog will only be faithful and stick to its masters side through thick or thin. If you ask me a dog is more reliable, loyal, trustworthy and honest than any human ccould be.

        • DrAaron

Ok, Martin, would you accept that both of you are correct? So what if a dog is killed in the street by running into traffic. What happens? Compare/contrast a pedestrian getting hit by a car; what happens? Do you see the difference? You have compassion for dogs and that is great, me too and so does Ken. HOWEVER, there is a difference. The difference is objective vs. subjective.

I seldom listen to Brenton because of all his questions and he changes the answers etc. BUT he does have some interesting stories. I just wish Wes was doing the interviews or someone who would let them just talk – then ask the questions. I don’t doubt that this happened to this officer a bit, and I know losing his “partner” means needs just that. If you’ve had a close relationship with your dog for years and they die, it’s a death in the your family, period.

Concur…..love the stories…hate the interview style……soo many questions he didn’t ask….soo much hot air…he loves to hear himself talk instead of letting the interviewee speak and he’s kinda cold…..the guy is shook up and Brenton keeps blowing it off like his grief is a bad cell signal…..have a heart man. Wish he could’ve said at least what general area he was in.

~ Dog-On it Wes, will you please try to interview this man? This is the 3rd serious attempt to listen to this encounter and I just keep saying to myself, ah, no, don’t interject right there, wait a second he’s speaking, let him speak… There is NO reason to postulate, no reason to lead someone whose fully engaged…and this Partner is NOT a pet, he’s a Partner and fellow officer.

Wes, please try to contact this game warden and interview him. I know you will talk to him with compassion that he deserves. I would love to hear his story from your interview. Thank you so much for your kindness and a heart that is as big as the sun! You so rock the BF world!!

Yes. Brenton can be difficult to listen to sometimes because of his interruptions and interjections. Vic Cundiff does a good job also like Wes just letting the people tell their stories and if they do ask questions they are relevant and significant. It would be good to hear Wes or Vic do a second interview because they have a unique ability to draw the peron’s story and you don’t even realize they’re being interviewed by them. It takes a special skill and ability to be quick to listen and slow to speak.

How does Brenton gets such interesting guests to interview?
It sucks because Wess is a far superior interviewer.
I can only listen to so many interviews with people who have little to no grasp of the english language, or encounters about someone seeing a hairy figure crossing the road up ahead of their car one night.
There are better encounter stories out there, and Brenton’s channel proves it. Wes should seek some of these people out.

I hate to burst anyone’s bubble, but Brenton is not the sharpest tool in the shed. I’m willing to bet his standards for vetting potential guests are much lower than Wes’. Now don’t get me wrong, he seems to be a nice guy, and I enjoy most of his shows. He just does not have the class, intelligence, foresight, and professional talent as Wes. I honestly don’t think Wes would take this particular account seriously, unless provided with more evidence. The entire saga seems contrived and a deliberate strategy to capture public attention and broaden the audience. It’s perhaps wiser and safer, (as far as reputation), for Wes to keep his distance and simply reference Brenton’s podcast instead of conducting the interview himself. If the “tall-tale” begins to crumble, he has created less accountability. IMO, this one does not pass the sniff test . . .

      • DrAaron

Jacqueline, you are 100% correct. Something doesn’t add up with most of his interviews. They are interesting but have tons of red flags. It wouldn’t be too hard to track down who this warden is and if this were 100% true, the agency will find out that he did this story. Why would he risk his job for a free poor quality interview? When Brenton says he intentionally waited for the interview so that things would simmer down? Come on. Yup, Au de Squatch…

Hey Wes, you are the man….
Now… any chance you could interview this guy for all us SC fans, as we all agree J.T. has an awesome encounter here, and no one comes close to your excellent interviewing style.
Brenton’s annoying disruptive interviews are aweful. People want to hear the guest speak his or her story not someone creating their own version of it.
Keep up the great work Wes! ?

  8. Darren H

Suggestion to “The Host”….get some training, it will only increase your audience.
Hats off to the Game Warden, for sharing your encounter.
Very sorry for the loss of your Partner. Hope you make a full recovery.

Brenton does have great guests and encounter reports. I try not to criticize when I have no knowledge or experience in the matter at hand, that being said ( here comes the critique!) I do agree with most of what you all noted. I felt awful for the officer losing his partner and although I believe Brenton is a caring person, he really did not seem connected to the amount of trauma endured and the respect due for the public servant who was killed in the line of duty, sacrificing itself so another will live. That point should not have been barely mentioned or acknowledged by him. Drives me crazy when the interviewer is supposed to be listening but then interrupts to ask a question that the person answered by what they just talked about, grrrrr! It’s not when someone ask for a clarifying point either, they just were not listening to their own interview. Like when I talk to my wife or kids! Other than that I enjoy having the stories to listen to and hope Wes has a chance to talk him and sends our condolences.

    • Martin Z

I agree Tedd. George Noory is the same way. George loves to derail, interject, and confuse the guest just to ask a stupid softball question. I really enjoy the style Wes has on his show to just let the guest speak his encounter. Even though Wes isn’t a journalist he stills knowns how to ask the right questions at the right moment.

  10. SantiamLady

I agree with everyone above. Brenton’s interview style is hard to listen to! ?? Please, Wes, get this witness on SC, where he will be allowed to really tell his encounter, and where his loss of “the dog” won’t be treated so flippantly.

  11. Erik N

Don’t get me wrong I agree Brenton has some decent guest with A+ encounter’s,but man Brenton just doesn’t let the guest talk . That game warden was interrupted by him at least 5 times and I thought that Brenton should of been more caring for the guys dog / partner after all he spent more time with that dog to than he spent with people no doubt in my mind about it. Enough of the rant , glad to see I’m not only one who thought the same thing as he interrupted the game warden . He could use some lessons from Wes and woody on that matter.

  12. Bryan P

Great interview, I am sorry to hear about his partner, like Brenton said, it’s tough losing a family member and best friend. I think that poacher probably spooked the Sasquatch and that’s why they did what they did. It’s not an excuse for their bad actions, but I just wish they would’ve taken out the poacher instead of the game wardens dog!! Hang in there buddy.

Brenton, it seems like recently especially, you interrupt your guests more and more TO TELL THEIR STORY FOR THEM. I hope you start reading the comments and take the constructive criticism to heart. I have always really liked you and have stuck up for you, because I think you have a really good heart and you are a good man. But you need to change your interviewing techniques and let your guests tell their story without constant interruption. I mean this guy kept trying to correct you as you’re going on and on. And he had just told us about his partner dying and you seemed so unaffected without offering some compassion. Maybe you should go back and listen to this interview…
