Strange light captured on a trail camera

A listener writes “I’ve been listening to Sasquatch Chronicles for nearly three years now and have enjoyed each and every one of your episodes. I’ve heard mention of you and your brother’s experience with lights in the woods a couple times on your pod-cast and most recently with your interview with Coonbo during your 300th episode this past week. I’ve been debating whether or not to send this since I captured it, I posted it to my Facebook last Spring but none of my friends could explain what’s shown.

I’ve attached the video I got on my son’s Covert trail cam late last Spring. The video is as it was recorded by the trail cam. It’s a minute long but everything happens in about the first five seconds. The date is not correct but I’m fairly certain the time is (or at least close). We typically keep the cam up year round, except for hunting season. I take it down so it doesn’t get stolen. We had just put it back up with a fresh set of batteries and I forgot to reset the date/time sometime in middle/late March of 2016. I usually swap out the memory card every 3-4 weeks. The trail cam films in color in regular daylight and it switches to infrared in low-light conditions. So in this instance, it looks to be a little past day-break as it is light but not light enough for it to film in color. You can also see a little bit of snow on the ground in patches

The camera picks up some movement and starts filming, the first five seconds show what appears to be a ball of light coming from the camera’s right, it arcs away from the cam on the right edge of the frame. In addition, you can see some sort of shadow moving abnormally quick, again just on the very edge of the frame.

We’ve had the camera for about 3-4 years and have not picked up anything out of the ordinary before or since. Usually it’s just: fox, coyote, deer, turkey, fisher, various other birds, raccoons etc. This cam is set up about 200yds or so behind my house and faces roughly North. About halfway between the house and the cam there is an abandon snowmobile trail. It has not been used by snowmobiles/ATVs for a couple years now because of landowner access issues somewhere further down the trail.

We place the cam in a small clearing that’s about 40’x30′, set on a tree about 4′ off the ground. The area is surrounded by fairly thick woods and the immediate clearing where the cam is is not really easily accessible by any type of tracked or wheeled vehicle.

Not sure what I captured but you’re more than welcome to have a look and see what you think. I’d prefer if you kept my name and exact location to yourself because of the work I do.

I’d love to hear what you think of the video.

Thanks for your time and keep up the great work with Sasquatch Chronicles!!”

Very weird, I just posted a comment and it disappeared, so let’s try this again.

In my opinion it looks like a person walking by with a flashlight. Then you catch the edge of the person walking by mostly out of range of the camera. It looks like you see the sole of a boot, then it looks like you catch a tiny bit of a knife or other item worn around the waist. It also looks like a much lighter shirt or jacket color there where a top of some sort would be worn.

Adjusted the settings to go at .25 speed and watched the light pass and then something darker passes in lower rt. side of view.
Almost like an arm swing. Could it be a flashlight being held and swinging as someone walked?

I agree with others on it appears to be a single light source and vehicle/person traveling in an arc outside of view. Tracks or something should be found if this is the case. My guess anyway without being on site.

I adjust the video’s settings to it’s slow mode.
The bright ball of light moves freely, not like a flashlight beam.
There is a dark shadow at lower right of screen image.
Something else besides the ball of light were near the trail cam.
