Strange Laughter

A listener writes “I was listening to the episode about “The Big Thicket” when you mentioned that some people experience “the laughter of children” out in the middle of the forest when I had a flackback of a mysterious camping experience I had back in the 90’s that I cant explain.

I had went on a camping trip out to Canyon Lake, Texas in the private Fort Sam Houston campgrounds w about 3 males and 4 female friends. We barbecued and drank beers n traded stories around the campfire late into the night well into the early morning hours until we retired to our tents. I ended up sleeping w the girls in their tent. I eas awakened early around 8am. The girls as well as my male friends all wanted to take showers down the road someways n take showers in the stalls.

I was the only one who refused because it was so cold so i stayed in the tent under the sleeping bag at the campsite. I must have fallen asleep. I was awakened by a poke on my leg and the laughter of children. I was still under the sleeping bag. I felt another poke on my leg as l muttered for whoever to stop it as the laughter continued. I thought it was my friends playing a joke on me.

Then the shaking started. Some one started physically shaking me as if to motion me to wake up while the laughing escalated. At that point I threw off my sleeping bag yelling for them to stop it. There was no one there. I ran out of the tent. The cars were still not back. My friends still werent back from the showers. I was the only one there.”
