Strange Incident In New Mexico

A listener writes “I live in Albuquerque New Mexico and live about 1 hour away very popular campsites in the Jemez(hem-ez) mountains.

Back in summer of 2013 my father came to visit from Spain and he wanted to go camping out in Jemez like we have done multiple times before. His was wife going to come out a couple weeks after, so we decided to do just a guys trip, and then when she arrived from Spain, we’d do another camping trip with his wife and my then girlfriend.

We had an experience during both occasions.

On the second day of the camping trip we wanted to do some hiking. My Father suggested we drive further up the mountain to the Valles(vie-ez) Caldera and do some hikes up there. The Valles Caldera is a huge dormant super volcano. It’s a very popular are for hiking, cross country skiing and snow shoeing. When you drive into the caldera its a beautiful sight. In order to hike the trails of the Caldera, you have to drive to the center of the caldera to stop at a ranger station. From the ranger station you have to pick and they drive you to the trail head. I remember asking one of the rangers what was their hardest hike. he had told me that they just re opened up one of their old trails that had been closed for 10 years. We decided that’s the trail we wanted to hike. It is called the Redondito Trail.

Once we decided that’s the hike we wanted to do, they informed us that they will drive us to the beginning of the trail and will pick us up at the end of the trail around the approximate completion time. This hike was approximately 4 hours. As we were getting ready to be driven out to the trail, we were informed another group would be joining us on the ride who would be hiking another trail, but would end up where we also end, around the same approximate time.

We were dropped off at the beginning of the trail and immediately were like, oh this isn’t a trail, it’s just an old logging load. Which we were OK with. While walking on the road we knew it really hadn’t been traveled in a long time because we saw fresh deer tracks in the middle of the road. After a hour ir two we started getting to the top of the crest of the trail. I was maybe 30 yards ahead of my father and once the road started to flatten out at the top, I decided to stop and wait for my dad to catch up. As I was standing there just looking around me appreciating the wilderness, I heard a big THUD to my left in the bush. It was thick so you couldn’t see 5 feet into the trees. On the right side of the road however, you could see pretty far, maybe 50 yards through the trees. But where the thud come from to the left, you couldn’t see anything. When I heard the THUD, it was like am excavator bucket hitting the ground.

I was staring into the bush and my dad was just catching up to me. As he was coming up to me he asked me what I was looking at, I told him I heard a THUD, and just as I told him, we heard two whoops. WHOOP, WHOOP!

The whoops came exactly from where i heard the THUD. We immediately looked at each other and were startled but not necessarily scared. We discussed it a moment and thought maybe a bird? We started moving again and at this point we’re on the crest of the caldera so there was no incline. We were continuing along the road and we started hearing knocking, knocking all around us. Not like woodpeckers but legit knocking on wood. Maybe in 3 to 4 different locations all around us. We weren’t afraid but we felt like we had to get out of there. We started walking at a faster pace and stayed together to get to the pick up point as soon as possible.

I don’t remember when, but at some getting towards the end of the trail for pick up, the knocking had stopped. Once we got to the end of the trail for the pick up from the ranger, it was only minutes before he actually showed up in the van. The ranger got out of the van and said we’re going to wait for the other party together there and then we’ll leave. During this time we started some small talk, my father stated how he was visiting from Spain and he had informed us he was a new employee at that location. After the small talk my dad asked if there had been any reports of sasquatch in the area.

The ranger fumbled over his words but asked if we “wanted to know the truth”. My dad and I looked at each other then back st him and were like “yeah obviously”. He proceeded to tell us the Finding Bigfoot was up there for investigation and that there was also a wedding reception somewhere up there that reported sightings of sasquatch. He asked us why we wanted to know. We told him what we experienced with the whoops and the knocks. My dad ended up picking up some rocks from the ground to imitate the knocking sound. As he was pounding the rocks together we immediately started hearing the wood knocks coming from the trail we just came down. In shock we both pointed and were saying ” like that, like that!”. The ranger stood there, ghost white in the face. He didn’t even acknowledge the knocking. Right on queue the other group showed up. Still not acknowledging what we just heard, he turned and got into the van. My dad and I looked at each other like WTF? We ended up loading up in the van with the other group and that was that.

Now two-week later my dads wife and my girlfriend came out and we camped in Jemez again and a different campsite. The first night were were camping were heard loud and close screams, or howls. Maybe 2 o’clock in the morning. There was about 5 seconds between yells. Lasted maybe 5 minutes. Towards the end if the screams there was a dog barking. Then the dog yelped and the loud screams stopped simultaneously.

When we got home. The first thing I did was YouTube bigfoot screaming. I found a video that sounds exactly what we had heard. Same intervals and all. I’ll link the video below.”

Back in 2013, my wife and son saw what they called, a transparent creature cross the road in front of them just as it was getting dark. Green Lane, Pa. We later saw a similar story in a Missing 411 video about hunters. In the video you shared, in the left of the frame is what looks similar to what my wife says she saw. It looks like it is “maybe” in the tree.
