Strange Familiars: In the Shadow of the Witch Diggers

Strange Familiars writes “Julie and John live on a property near the location of the Witch Diggers story from 1892. They were having strange activity around their land and, by coincidence, then found out about the Witch Diggers. Bigfoot creatures, possible apports, weird lights, bad smells, unknown howls and, shockingly, an elderly neighbor who reported that “monkey-men” climbed through the window of his house one night.”

I think about that “Sasquatch” stink I experienced twice in my life so far. Both had unnatural or possible spiritual aspects to them that was unlike anything else I’ve ever experienced before. Both defied any rudimentary understanding I know of in science.

The first time I experienced it was like walking into a very defined area of it that was contained by something you could neither see or feel (even in a light breeze). It was either there or not when you leaned forward or back even mere inches… And upon looking for the source of it several yards away while walking within the smell, it ended up on the other side of the stink as it ended just as abruptly.

It really spooked me… This was probably only a year after hearing what I later learned sounded very close to what is known as the Ohio Howl which was accompanied by the sound of multiple incredibly large trees crashing to the ground at close range, and in three different directions. This was somewhere around 2012-13 If I recall.

Just the idea around the general sense of smell makes me think… I wonder what the air and earth smelled like thousands of years ago?

It’s like when you go to a different city, house or place of work for a length of time, sometimes it smells off or even foul at first… But over time you get so accustomed to it that you don’t even notice it anymore. Sometimes it takes someone new to step in and say “Holy cow, this place stinks!” before you realize it from someone else’s perspective, then remember.

Just for the sake of thinking, I wonder if a person from thousands of years ago just reappeared in our modern times and what their sense of smell would tell them.

Part of me thinks that maybe they would immediately think they’re in hell just by our overpowering modern smells of factories, chemicals and garbage, and loud artificial fragrances. And then I think, “that’s only one of the common senses”.

But as any human would, over time they’d probably get used to it… And that seems sad to me, but also wakes me up.

Maybe people use to smell berries, roots, or approaching rain or even other humans from hundreds of yards or even miles away… That would seem logical if not probable for survival IMO.

It makes we wonder🤔… What else “stinks” in this world that we have gotten so use to that we just don’t notice it anymore?

And what other stinks have we gotten use to with our other senses that we just don’t take them in as accurately as we should, with a fresh perspective?

Sometimes we have to see past our own nose to answer that I suppose. 🌞🙏🏼

Sasquatch smells like hell if you ask me… just saying.

Have a wonderful day everyone, use your sense, and senses!

Sorry not sorry, my fingers won’t stop.

Now I wonder about smelling from a fresh perspective. If people were smelling this Sasquatch thing hundreds of years ago without having been desensitized like we are now, the way I thought it stunk like “hell”, I wonder what ancient peoples would have thought of that smell if it were amplified 10x+with fresh nostrils? That’s probably beyond scary.

You know, giving a loved one flowers probably meant so much more as well with the natural smell amped up with pre industrial nose holes. I’m glad we still have that tradition, even if we have to stick our noses right in them now:)…Maybe we didn’t always have to stick our noses where they didn’t necessarily belong😂… Maybe we should’ve got the hint something wasn’t going right when that became more apparent? I think it’s good be aware of subtle changes in things.

Now I wonder if those Ancient Egyptians actually did get some mind altering or mind numbing effects from the Blue Lotus with more of an acute sense of smell?

    Ok… Making myself stop now.
