A listener writes “Hello Wes. I live in Washington State. I will start off by saying I have never physically seen a sasquatch. I had a strange encounter in the Okanagan National Forest when I was 18 in 2001.
It was October and I was hunting with a friend, my brothers and my father. My friend (I won’t name him) was no stranger to hunting as he grew up in Sitka Alaska but this was his first hunting trip in Washington. We found a great camp with lots of logging roads near by. On our first day my friend, my dad and I hiked out on a game trail back behind our camp. We didn’t encounter anything at that time but there are a lot of free range cattle in the mountains out there and while we were hiking I noticed a cow pie with a giant footprint in the middle of it. I waved the other 2 over and pointed it out. After that we were able to find 4 more tracks leading off into the woods. Though fascinating we decided that it was probably nothing and continued our hunt. We didn’t see any deer but we had a very successful grouse hunt on that trail.
The next day my dad wanted to try a nearby logging road with my brothers and my buddy wanted to go down the same trail we had the day before since we had such good success on grouse. Well we hiked out farther than the previous day and the game trail ended at a little creek. We decided to hike a little farther along the side of the creek but eventually the underbrush just got too thick to continue. While we were backtracking we heard a bunch of cracking and a dead tree fell across the trail maybe 30 feet in front of us. We also heard something huffing and tromping through the bushes to our left. It sounded like a person huffing after a long run. We heard it continue as it got farther and farther away. At that point we figured our hunt was over because there was a crazy person out there with us somewhere. As we got closer to camp and a good distance away from the creek we found a lot of coyote sign and a den that looked like it was in use. We marked the location and decided to come out later in the evening to see if we could spot coyotes coming out of the den. We went out there and walked up on a hill overlooking the den and our plan was to just sit and wait. About an hour goes by and we sat quietly and a tree limb thicker than my leg and twice as long as I am tall flew out in front of us.
It didn’t drop from a tree but was flipping around like a helicopter as if something had chucked it at us. We were both in shock and then we heard a growel from behind us. I hadn’t reacted at first until I saw my friend running down the hill. He was already halfway down the hillbwfore I followed. I could hear heavy thudding behind me but I was afraid to look. As I was running down the hill my friend had turned around and raised his rifle. His face was white which scared me. He then fired a round into the dirt which scared me enough that I tumbled the rest of the way down the hill. I lost my rifle during the tumble. By the time I got to the bottom whatever was behind me was gone. My friend was shaking. I asked him what it was and he just shook his head and coughed out the words “don’t know!” I saw my rifle not too far away and as I went to get it my friend broke down sobbing. He never said it was sasquatch but he said it wasn’t a bear. Neither of us did any more hunting on that trip. He was never as close with me after that and eventually we lost contact with eachother. I know he saw something and I know what we experienced together. The only explanation I can come up with is we had a close encounter with sasquatch. Most primal fear I had ever experienced in my life.”

How frightening. I would have been sobbing with his friend. I’m so sorry he saw the Sasquatch and that it affected their friendship. .

That would have been scary as hell!! Jeez!!

Never getting together again makes me think he was too embarrassed & just couldn’t face his friend with the real reason he was frightened. For men, even the young ones, that kind of reaction is an indication you’re a coward (they think), and that’s just what he thought of himself. He decided to bury all traces of that memory it would seem, and move on. No fault if his friend.
Looking forward to hearing this one. Thx Wes

Frightening, indeed. Thanks, Wes, and to the listener who shared. This would be another great show.

what an awesome show, your story would make. Sorry to hear that your friendship was lost cause of what it sounds like a very close Big foot encounter which sounded like it was triggered because of the running posible. Did your brothers or father get any deer on the rest of your trip, or did the squatch seem to scare all the big game away??? just wondering if you have time to awnser??
