Something Following Me

A listener writes “I moved to Pennsylvania a couple years after than. My wife at that time had a job opportunity so we decided to move. Well we divorced about a year after moving. Me being a small country boy and liking it that way and her seeing the big city lights she wanted to try a different life style and we just weren’t compatible anymore.

I began hiking again and I didn’t have anybody to hike with so I took a solo hiking trip with just myself and my dog to Forbes state forest. I was hiking up a trail called quarry trail. I was the only one there that day. It was early February and still cold out, but a beautiful sunny day. While hiking up the trail I noticed foot steps in the leaves up on the hill to my left.

There was some thick brush in there with green leaves. The only thing that didn’t look dead this early in the year. When I stopped the foot steps and movement in the brush would stop with me. This happened three times. The last time I stopped and it stopped I took a step up the trail and as clear as day was a wood knock. Just one. Just seconds later further up the trail I heard a loud scream. I found one nearly identical on YouTube as a recording. It was a single scream and that was it. I kept going up the trail and that was the last of the experience until making my way back down the trail.

At nearly the same spot I had ended the encounter I had a weird feeling like I wasn’t alone. My dog who was with me and had no odd reactions to this point stopped wanting to play. She ran about 20 feet down the trail where she could see me, but I could tell she wanted to leave. To make it more creepy she kept looking at me and at something over my left shoulder as I walked towards her. I would watch her eyes look at me dead on then shift left and up then down at me again. So this son of a bitch was practically breathing down my neck. I wanted to run and panic, but I know that usually turns out bad so I kept calm. Kept my eyes on my dog and the trail. By the way she kept running keeping about the same distance from me constantly and looking at me and up and left. My dog Wes is the kind of dog that never leaves your side unless you throw something for her to fetch. And not wanting to play is unheard of. It gets annoying at times because it’s hard to enjoy nature constantly throwing sticks and rocks she brings me. She’ll start to bark at me if I don’t throw them. Well she didn’t want to stay near me or play she just wanted to leave. I didn’t hear it pace me out but I could feel it and my dog was proving with her attitude and eyes I wasn’t alone.”
