Can foxes hold their screams that long? All the ones I’ve heard have a shorter duration. Even the ones that have been in & around my yard are never that loud.

Just saw this video. I’m not outruling a fox…however. That did sound very powerful. I bet that oficer xould feel that scream in his chest. Listen to the variety of fox calls in the compilation and y’all can chose for yourselves. Great video though. I personally believe it could very possibly by our hairy friend. ?

I’ve heard both red and gray foxes vocalize. While they are similar to that scream, neither of them sounded quite like that. However, every animal can make vocal mistakes. Perhaps, this was one of them. Yes. Foxes for their size can be VERY loud.

Yep…agreed. Every animal can make vocal mistakes which makes it even more interesting trying to figure out what we are hearing. There does seem to be something off for this to be a fox. Though…I’m thinking the longevity and volume?

The scream in the police video, to me sounds like something trying to sound like a fox.

I was thinking the same Debbie. Nice find. Seemed louder and longer, and a bit off like when I have heard them imitate owl and loon. I can not say for sure what it is, but like the police officer I would have backed away also.

One thing is for sure, I would not hang around to see if it was a fox, but I think it was too loud to be one.

THis sounds really amplified.. the clicks and knocks right before the scream sound loud to me.. then the scream..
I don’t know what it is (fox maybe).. but that dude made the right decision.. no sense getting mauled by a bear, cougar, badger.. whatever… just to investigate a non-issue.

We got a fox and den on our wooded property that makes those freaky sounding screams at night and still not near as loud as the scream in the video. That cop didn’t just hear it….He felt it. Otherwise he would’nt have jumped out of skin like he did… I know he didn’t freak but he got the hell on. Let S.W.A.T. handle it!

Similar to a fox, but unless that fox is pounding on a tree with a bat then I don’t think so. The vocals sound more sophisticated and there is definitely a knock right before the scream.

I’ve been trying to post this video happy to see it already here, sadly other copies have the scream amplified adding No credit to the possible Sasquatch vocal. Which I’m not sold as I’ve not heard one but I have heard fox who sound human and very hi pitched. I’m more curious if the officer is withholding what he saw has it it appears he flinched just prior to the scream

That was the way it seemed to me too….that he flinched as he shined the flashlight over there and then the scream. That look on his face as he briskly walked away…priceless. Makes you wonder….

I believe about half of that screech was the sound of a sphincter tightening too fast.
