Paranormal Portal: Another Mothman Chronicle – Travis Shortt

Brent writes “On this episode of the Paranormal Portal Podcast, we welcome Travis Shortt back to the show. Travis is one of the people responsible for the production of the first feature-length documentary on the Mothman Phenomena called “Darkwings: The Mothman Chronicle”. Travis has been a key figure in the ongoing research into this incredible phenomena. Travis returns to discuss more of the history and legend that brought a small community to international awareness and introduced us to the mystery known as the Mothman. Mothman is one of the most enigmatic topics in the Paranormal Realms, as it is considered to be many things. Some regard this as a cryptid, others an extraterrestrial being, and still others regard it as a Spiritual Being. While we don’t know for sure what the nature of this creature is, the sightings and experiences are still being reported by those who claim to have come face to face with the Mothman!”

As I’m listening to the events surrounding Chief Cornstalk’s curse on My Pleasant and the consequential? 1944 tornado ripping through that town, I’m reminded of my hometown of Topeka KS where Chief Abram B. Burnett born November 1812, Chief of the Pottawatomie Tribe, had warned the City of Topeka not to place a huge cylindrical water tank atop Burnett’s Mound, defacing sacred land and burial ground. It was 1966, the City of Topeka disregarded Burnett’s warning, whereupon, as local legend would have it, the Chief put a curse on the Mound. That year, on June 8,1966, an F5 tornado cut and leveled a mile and a half wide swath up over the mound and down through the heart of Topeka.
It first hit my husband’s family farm taking a red wooden barn, seven outbuildings, and the top of their house. It headed straight for my family next, who were “hunkered” down in the basement; it sounded like five freight trains and the house was shaking so hard! We were spared, the tornado turned just before reaching our house and destroyed a pony farm to the south. I totally believe these types of words have power.

Pt Pleasant, not My Pleasant, gotta love these phones. That’s okay, gives me an excuse to describe Chief Burnett. He was a very overweight man, so much so that he couldn’t write a horse so the good Chief would ride around town back in the 1800s, in the back of a horse drawn wagon. The Mound was only a few blocks from our home.

Great interview Brent, the guests line of thinking goes right in line with some of my own thoughts and comments I’ve recently made. West Virginia must’ve had a lot of emotional trauma and turmoil going on being a border State during the civil war as well. Just a thought
