New real-life 6ft invisibility ‘megashield’ can hide multiple people

Two years after it announced its first invisibility shield, London-based firm Invisibility Shield Co is back again with a brand new, updated and much larger offering known as the Megashield.

While the shield doesn’t exactly offer complete invisibility, it is remarkably effective at hiding anything or anyone behind it, making it appear as though there is nothing there at all.

This new, larger variant also makes it possible to hide multiple people at the same time.

“The lenses in this array are oriented so that the vertical strip of light reflected by the standing/crouching subject becomes diffuse when spread out horizontally on passing through the back of the shield,” Invisibility Shield Co. writes on its Kickstarter page.

“From the observer’s perspective, this background light is effectively smeared horizontally across the front face of the shield, over the area where the subject would ordinarily be seen.”

One of the most obvious applications for a shield like this would be in the military where the ability to remain well camouflaged could prove invaluable for soldiers on the battlefield.

If the invisibility shield could be adapted and applied to an outfit rather than to just a single sheet of material, it would likely be a game changer.

A demonstration of its capabilities can be viewed in the video below.
