Around the 35 second mark you can hear it in the background. A listener writes ” hope this email finds you well. My boyfriend Tim and I are huge fans of your podcast and would like to share this audio clip we recorded on my iPhone this past weekend.
We are not sure what it was…We were up in the NH white mountain national forrest visiting my aunt who lives on Cherry mountain in Twin Mountain NH. We were about 15 minutes into the deep woods at a pond where many animals frequent. We were there about maybe five minutes before we heard these screams.
It was definitely no animal I have ever heard, I am an avid outdoors woman and have grown up exploring these woods and know the sounds that every native New England animal makes. At first we thought maybe it was a person camping but then we realized that nobody was around us for miles. I’m not sure if you can tell by the audio but there were actually two voices. There was a deeper one that my boyfriend and I felt was “male” and the more shrill “female” voice. I have 20mins of audio where you can hear the yells about 16 times. It gave us both goosebumps. My boyfriend decided to do some wood knocking which can be heard in this clip that I sent. I hope you enjoy the clip as much as we did.
I’m not sure if this is related but there are two completely abandoned campsites on this road as well; these people left everything behind and one of the tents was completely shredded. We did hear screaming at one of sites that night on our way back to her house and the next morning when we rode by was when we discovered the shredded tent. Not sure if it’s any relation to the screams but I thought it was worth noting…Apologies for the audio quality, I am hardly a tech wiz.
A ironic thing to add is that two weeks ago when we were up visiting we had been stopped by an elderly man who asked us if we had heard or seen Bigfoot yet. We had kind of brushed the old man off politely and went upon our way. Come to find out this same man had approached my aunt a few days later and asked her the same question. This man had been camping at the same spot where my boyfriend and I heard these noises. ( we did not know this until after we had recorded the noises and showed it to my aunt). Also, a few years ago that show Finding Bigfoot had come up to the mountain my aunt lives on and conducted a “search” for Bigfoot. According to some of the locals there have been multiple reported sightings and incidents on this mountain.
My aunt has heard these same similar noises off and on for many years but never told anyone and couldn’t figure out what was making the noise.”

No need to apologize, cell phones, even the best, seem to be poor distant and forest recorders. Maybe there is a way integrate a hand held parabolic antenna to a cell phone to greatly enhance quality.
