Navajo Nation Experience

A listener writes “In the summer of 2015, I received an early morning call from a friend asking me for a ride over to his girlfriend’s place. My schedule kept me up late and I was bored so I picked him and his son up.

His girlfriend lives 2-3 miles from my house near the river at the end of a cul de sac. They are the last house on the left. A large grove of cottonwood trees bordered by the eastern property line and the north opens up to a large field. He did not want to wake her so we walked around to the kitchen. She had a vehicle, a pickup, parked back on the NE corner of the back yard.

We came around the corner and I stopped. Near the front passenger side and behind the passenger side of the vehicle were two sets of enormous eye shine. They were the size of the reflectors atop highway medians and giving off so much light I thought they were the source of the silvery. whitish-blue light. A sound came from the tree line. It reminded me of a puppy protesting when it’s being placed down after being held. There was a second sound coming from the sets of eyeshine. I tapped the right shoulder of my buddy’s son and asked if they had a dog. “No”. As it became clearer of what I was witnessing I decided to return to the car. I turned around and did not turn my head towards the treeline but looked ahead because night vision is better in the periphery. I saw motion. A shadow was moving from the tree line along the fencing back towards the river. Another appeared to be switching places with it. I felt a presence. It was huge. It felt like it was standing back near a large stump coordinating everything.

In my car I strained to see anything moving by the fence. Looking behind me I saw other movements. It was difficult to determine at first because everything was back lit from a street light across the river. I rubbed my eyes to see if I didn’t have schmutz there. I had to refocus on what I was seeing. The movement was 3 more sets of eyeshine. The eyes were just as big and shiny but they looked as if they were giving off the same amber light one sees on street lights. They were moving in an up-and-down motion like someone pretending to go down in an elevator while standing in one place. Just then, my buddy and his son got back into the car.

I said to them “You either have skinwalkers or bigfoot out there.” “You’re just seeing things” said my friend. “Watch, there are three of them behind us let me show you.” I put the car in reverse and came out of the drive way backing up into the cul de sac. I flipped on the bright lights. Three large black mounts shown in the headlights. I couldn’t tell if they looked like mounds of dark compost or huge stumps. I dared not to honk the horn because of the sheriff who lived next door. I thought about tossing something at them. “You’re just seeing things. Let’s go before we wake anyone up.” We left and dropped off the son.

An hour had passed, I scanned the area as we pulled back into the drive way. We walked up to the front door. My buddy was worried about his girlfriend being alarmed if he knocked. She opened the door and he asked if I would stand on the porch so he could smooth things over with her. I agreed and turned with my back up against into the corner where the garage wall met the doorframe. The porch light limited my ability to see out. I got the notion to called out “Whoop!” No sooner did I complete the “P” sound an organ-rattling roar came from the darkness the direction of the cottonwoods.

I was so loud my entire body vibrated. I don’t know how I got inside because I noticed the door knob was missing but I leeped inside the foyer and slammed the door. “There is no fucking way I’m staying out there something just roared at me.” They stood motionless, shocked and stunned as I was. No one said anything and my friend started to flip on all the house lights. He walked me through the house, opened up the garage door and watched as I left into my car. I drove over to the casino just to be around people because it freaked me out so badly. I actually stopped talking to him shortly after this happened.

I went back the day after to see if I was mistaken about the large mounds of dirt or stumps where those three were moving. There was no trace of darkened soil or anything that looked out of place. It appeared that they crouched down when I flipped the lights on them to look like something else.

There was some odd thing that happened in 2017. I’ll have to share that with you another time.”
