A listener writes “Hello Wes! I’ve been listening to your podcast episodes these last few evenings trying piece together what I saw and one episode had a striking similarity.
I currently live in a very urban area in Houston Texas, not too experienced with woods life but a few weeks back I went to visit some relatives who live up in Huntsville all the way out in the woods and staying with them. I settled in since I’d be staying for about a week, and this was on the 3rd of this month. Everything went by as normal and we just visited and went out into Huntsville for the first few days.
Finally on the 7th the Thursday I was headed back home it began to snow that night (just in case it didn’t reach Houston) so I decided to stay up there another night since I didn’t have that much of a schedule to go on at the time to see the snow, which is a strange and rare thing down here.
It’s around evening time when I left their back gate open (Not being used to staying up there and having to keep the dogs in) and Maxine my cousins Beagle Mix ran out and headed into the woods around that area. They have a very dense wooded area living out by the national forest and sometimes they let her out back there so they just assumed she be back in a few minutes, we go back inside and it begins to get chilly and colder but still no snow. About an hour and a half pass and it’s damn near pitch black out and the dog isn’t back, so we decide to go out there and call for her.
My cousin Andrew and I gear up and bundle up in jackets beforehand since snow flurries are finally coming down. We begin to walk closer to the wood line, only with our phone flash lights for lighting when she comes storming out of the woods making a yipping sounds as if she was hurt, we immediately grabbed her and checked her to make sure she didn’t injury herself as my cousin is searching her there’s a high pitch noise out of the woods, almost like an odd bird chirp/whistle sound but you know it wasn’t a bird since what would they be doing so late out here in the snow flurries? We kind of shrugged it off until there were legitimate footstep sounds coming TOWARDS us, we both look completely shocked and bewildered thinking some person is out here near the property this late in this weather. Obviously we know not to dart off and run since maybe if it’s just some loon or homeless person they’ll just go on and the house is a good 30 meters away.
Maxine begins to start yipping again and crying towards the woods line which is right near us and almost immediately in response something makes a huffing sound, like a huge sigh/breath of air and you could immediately tell it wasn’t a person. Instinctively I flash my phone light towards the sound and see an actual arm hand, scraping at the ground and soil through some debris and bush, as if someone was leaning down “clawing” through dirt. I didn’t see any hair or anything except this was no normal hand the thing looked charred/leathery with short fat fingers. I pointed towards this to my cousin and we both darted towards the house immediately. I’d say this whole expiernced happened in a span of a minute, but felt like forever with my heart beating so vivid and fast.
Once we got in, we both talked to each other about what literally just happened along with telling everyone else who either chucked it up to being a joke or assuming it was some crazy homeless person since some live in the national forest and that area. Andrew has now started disregarding the story and thinking it was just some paranoia being out there in the dark.
Now I’m pretty skeptical about things but everything in me and my gut is telling me something was wrong there. I’ve looked up countless stories in the past few weeks about Sasquatch and believe I had an encounter with something that night. It just feels like the Twighlight zone now with the snow that night too…
I just wanted to reach out to people since I feel I can’t tell many in day to day occurances without them thinking I’m off my rocker.
Thanks for taking the time to read through this, I’d love a reply if you have any knowledge about my particular situation!”

Sounds like you had a Bigfoot encounter. Thanks for sharing

Sounds like this happened near Bob Garrett’s old stomping grounds in the San Houston National Forest. Wes, have you been in contact with Bob recently? If so, how is he doing? Thanks.

Thank you for sharing, and your not off your rocker. I believe you had an experience with something and I would have reacted the same way. I’d probably even tell anyone whom would listen at first too. Did the dog have an odor after running from the woods? Was there any odor in the air around you? Only wondering because a foul smell is often reported in these types of encounters. Again, thanks for sharing…it would have scared me to death had I been in your shoes.
