A listener writes ” As a child I uses to spend the summers with my grandparents in a small town called Burns Lake, BC, Canada. My grandfather immigrated to Canada from Germany, and soon found himself spending months in the Burns Lake area to hunt. (His family followed later).

My grandfather has had several Sasquatch encounters and one that could be a UFO / Sasquatch encounter. I had three encounters starting at age 10. Experiences to this day still give me nightmares. I am now 55 years old. My grandmother had an experience as a young girl in Germany with what she called a wolf / man monster. I would be happy to give you detailed descriptions on these events. But to do this now would make this a very long email. My purpose for this email has to do with my grandfather’s experience in Alaska with what your show called a Mountain Giant.

In 1978 I was as usual visiting my grandparents in Burns Lake. My grandfather was excitedly getting ready to leave for a two week hunting trip in Alaska (a yearly event). He was gone for less than a week. When he returned he looked years older. His hair had gone from salt and pepper colour to white. My grandfather and I were very close, we had no secrets but it did take him a few years to tell me what had happened.

I don’t know where he and his hunting partner were in Alaska, somewhere very remote. I also don’t know the time sequence of when in their trip this occurred. He said that they had left their camp and headed towards a mountain. They had hiked from early in the morning until mid-day, when they came across some huge footprints. At first they thought it might have been a grizzly bear prints, then agreed that there were no overlaps from front and rear paw. It was clearly a foot print of a large 4 toed bipedal creature. He estimated the prints to be around two feet long. The next day they saw it. My grandfather and his partner again were hiking / hunting. He said they thought that an earthquake was happening. The ground was vibrating. There was also a guttural growl or grunt. Soon they realized that what was happening was not an earthquake but an absolutely huge creature walking close to them. Both men were absolutely terrified. They hid themselves by jamming into and under bushes. This creature was approximately 100 – 150 feet away. It walked towards them then veered left away from them. My grandfather told me that his view was often blocked by trees, but he still got a good look at it. He described the creature as being 18 to 20 feet tall, just massive with a big barrel chest. Its skin was tanned looking and it had orange / red hair on its head that was long messed up with branches and leaves in it, that hung down to his shoulders. (It was male) Its eyes were amber. It had a human face with a tall bridged nose and wide nostrils. It had a moustache that ran down into a beard that fell down its chest. Mouth was thin lipped, extremely wide with two large…tusks is what I think he called them… coming up and out of its mouth. It had a short neck, it was naked and covered with orange hair, but not like a Sasquatch more like you would see in a man that had a lot of chest and back hair. This creatures lower back and buttocks had no hair, but his legs were hairy and its chest to groin was also hairy. The skin on its face was wrinkled. Its hands were huge, arms came down to just above the knees. There was some hair on its hands and it had grey finger nails. It had a large scar on its right thigh that ran from its hip to just below the knee. There was another red looking scar that ran from its right rib down to its left hip. When it walked my grandfather could see all its muscles moving. He could hear it breathe in long deep breaths with the occasional Huffing sounds. He said that you felt the sounds more than heard them. It was holding what looked like a walking stick in its left hand. A walking stick to it, a tree to us.

My Grandfather was so traumatized from this experience that he never hunted again. He stayed in Burns Lake for the rest of his life, but he refused to hunt. I have always believed my grandfather. He was a no nonsense type of man, and the most honest person I have known. When I heard your Mountain Giants show I was in tears. He would be so relieved to know that there are other people out there that have experienced the same.

He once told me that there are things on this planet that humans thankfully have no clue exist. And he has no desire to discover any more. He drew me a picture of this creature then burned it. He made me swear to him that I would never repeat any of this experience to anyone. He also told me not to discuss any of the other encounters he had or my grandmother and I have had. But its time. I am so grateful for your pod cast because so much of what I’ve heard is similar to my family’s experiences.
