Mount St Helens Howls

Mount St. Helens is an active stratovolcano located in Skamania County, Washington, in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.

It is 96 miles south of Seattle, Washington, and 50 miles northeast of Portland, Oregon. The YouTube said he recorded these sounds from that region.

    Good recording. I wish a researcher would go out to the Piney Island Bayou and capture some of that sound. It would curl a crusty old hermits toes. It sounds like “the dickens”. I can’t believe no one has done that before. It sounds like a combination of howls, screams, cries, creeches… spooky stuff.

    My best friend and I heard this exact howl from just outside our camp on night not far from Skookum Meadow in summer 2000. It was the loudest thing I have ever heard in the wilderness. It was 5 howls, and I don’t think it could have been more than 100-200 yards away at most, if not closer.
