I was riding my horse with a friend on the Tulalip reservation in Washington state, back on one of the old logging roads. We were chatting & riding along when all of a sudden, the horses started shying all over the place. We were trying to calm them down when about 8 feral dogs came barreling around a corner. We had already noticed the stench was putrid. Kind of like something laid a blanket of stink on us. We held our ground and the dogs ran off in another direction. The horses were skittish the whole rest of the ride. During those years, my horses often had twisted manes.
