ParticipantMy friend is a Navy Vet, Eagle scout who has a doctorate. He is an accountant who is very anal about reality. . He grew up in Arizona and camped out a lot and stayed in wilderness and lived off the land for Scout training. He knew the noises a Coyote. Wolf, Bear etc. make. In 1977, when he was 18, he went up to Oregon to visit a friend who introduced him to 2 Native Americans. They went out into a redwood forest and camped. On the first night they heard wolves nearby. None of the 4 were startled as they knew that wolves would not come into camp. That night they heard heavy footsteps coming around them going up into the mountains. The wolves seemed to get in the way and attacked whatever it was. My friend described the initial fight fight occurred about 75 feet from camp north of them. My friend described the sounds of the fight as growls, then three wolf screams then it quickly went silent. Then about a minute later the alpha wolf had come around them to the rear and back and attacked whatever it attacked the being to the West of the camp. My friends herd a ripping noise and the wolf went silent. In the morning my friends went out to look at tracks and found 3 wolves killed where each one had been bludgeoned and had broken necks. Then they followed the tracks where the Alpha had had its jaws ripped apart and thrown away easily. During the night they all knew what that being was and what was happening. Their native american friends said that the being who killed the wolves lives in the mountains and that they do not go up there. it was obvious from the footprints what had happened that night. The wolves had gotten in the way as the creature was heading toward home. The wolves did not yield because they wanted to scavange the campsite for food. The footprints they found were very large and they all knew that a black bear or mountain lion could not take on 4 wolves. Imagine the strength of a being who can rip a wolf apart like we tear a sheet of paper. My friend said that it was obviously a one sided fight. They packed up and hiked out.
