I don’t know what it is on her shoulder, but there is an obvious change in the color of the “fur” up there. It could be a little one, but I dunno. I think a dead critter is less likely, food is a prized item and just throwing it up on the shoulder without keeping a hand holding it seems a bit careless.
Something is different there though, for sure.

To simply have survived in a world overrun with humans they are clearly intelligent.
I suspect their personalities vary as much as ours do, simply listening to Wes’ show over the years tells us the variety of interactions they have with humans covers the whole spectrum…most are probably never seen, most that are seen bail out as quickly as possible.
    Interesting thread.
Haven’t stopped by in many moons, good to see some “OG” folks still here.

Gum you have a long email in your inbox, I am sorry, LOL.

I won’t be where I can read and rely for several hours so feel free to mull the situation over before responding.

I remember that case. The whole thing was a disaster from the git go. No happy ending for any of them.

I agree with Gum and Knobby on their take on the young kids. My own kids were this way when young, my grandkids are…and in work situations, well..it plays out.
This case is the most interesting situation to come along in some time, to my way of thinking. In a perfect world at some point the sooner the better, someone who knows how to interview would have a chance to do so, but I doubt that is gonna be allowed to happen.
I suspect the responsible adult is a bit nervous about some of the questions being asked regarding these little ones outside etc.
Hopefully, at some time after all of this has died down someone can make and inquiry and speak to the right people and get the door opened to talk to the kid.
At first blush it certainly seems to follow the pattern of previous cases with small kids.
I stopped into see what if anything had popped up here on this case. Glad to see the depth of conversation taking place.

    Gumshoe….

That, sir, was perfect. I admit here and now I plan to steal it, word for word.
    I will give you credit.
    Bravo.
I generally stay out of these threads, and far, far away from them. I am glad I pushed the button.

The world is full of people who, through some course of events, found out they could make a buck engaging in that age old art of B.S. at a high level.
They then get the bright idea they can make a living raising it to an art form, and some actually do, until the truth comes up on their proverbial back bumper.
Sounds like she has headlights in her rear view mirror, as it were.

    Gum,
No expert or computer geek but I use the heck outta them LOL.
I am saving my $ for a new laptop, almost there. I live on mine most times when we are at home. Not cheap for sure…but worth it.
This will be my last windows machine. When I was working I had a Macbook pro for sensitive TF stuff and was stuck with a Windows machine for stuff directly related to the agency. (Budget stuff, doing Payroll, writing evals reports, etc). The secretary that put all of our warrants together hated the system and her hubby was a Mac guy.
He is the one who got me moving to Mac.
Wife has a Macbook Pro she is issue by her boss for work. It is simply awesome.
And, I am going back for home use.
The Mac OS is more stable in every sense of the word, I have gone through 3 HP laptops in 6 years. Windows 10 is doable but dang I miss the simplicity and intuitive nature of the Mac. Further I am getting ready to dust off the partial outline I have for a novel and get after it again. (i think I told you about that deal) Even with a backup I simply do not trust windows to not lose my work.
I am not an Iphone guy, so I don’t consider myself a true Apple Believer, but their laptops are the best. I will stick with my Samsung Galaxy 9+ for phone.
I agree with the Mozilla recommendation.
I have used the Mozilla Firefox browser on my PC stuff for probably 8 years, since I retired I think. It has been awesome. It is great. I use Startpage or duckduckgo for searching, Adblocker Ultimate for blocking that crap and Trend Micro for antivirus for about 5 years. So far so good. Trend also covers our phones and other stuff…tablets etc…up to 5 devices for the same fee.
A couple other programs I can’t remember right now for cleaning files etc.
Hang in there, this tech stuff can be frustrating as heck…for me anyway.

It is hard enough to move the effort to bring this species forward with the government and business interests using their power to thwart any honest progress.
But, we in the BF community also have the charlatans and the age old problem of the money chasers in the mix.

Sometimes it seems such a simple thing, then you look at stuff like this.

Sounds like a mountain lion kill could be a possibility as well. I have seen several like this, a couple on my own property over the years. A cat will drag the kill to a tree and push leaves and other ground debris over it and return to feed for several days. What you saw could have been a fresh kill and a few older ones.
Worth considering if the area is part of their range…

Heck of a story Pam. Amazing. I can only imagine hearing that first hand.
I like to listen to older folks talk too. We are losing a lot of history as the current 80+ generation passes.
The Native People have a rich Oral History tradition, I think it is a a shame our culture hasn’t followed that example.

Parents have to use their instinct and evaluate their children on an individual basis to touch a subject like this. My sons grew up in the sticks, mountain lions were occasionally around, as were bobcats and bears.
The boys saw what a cat could do to a deer fairly early on.
they quickly learned of the fragile nature of life.

They also had a father who worked nights during the majority of their childhood, that walked out the door with a gun on his way to work. They had to learn about certain personal security issues that went with that.

As they grew into young adulthood and started going deeper into the high country with their friends hunting and off-roading we had a chat about it. By then they could read me well enough to know when they needed to hear and learn from my words.
I believe it is a difficult task, but if you are a believer or a knower then you owe them the information you have, just like any other potential safety issue.
