ParticipantThanks Diana. …a ‘taught’ boundary is an interesting thought, also the sticks & stones…. when I am able to write up my ‘observations’ for Wes, cant call them quite encounters, some of these thoughts fit into place. thanks again. This is a good forum with great folks.

Participantif they are seclusive, then why approach homes at all? (Diana M), or want us to have an interest in them (Linda W)? If they are predators, who have ripped cages and dog-houses/chicken-coops/rabbit-dens…. apart, then why not houses? If they are just curious, then why ‘growl’ and be heard from the inside ? Again, I am not a denier, but for something that has existed for 100[000]’s of years in coexistence with us would likely not ‘fool around’ putting itself in jeopardy I would think. Why are not Rocks or branches thrown through windows? I have not heard of that either. These are some of the questions i get asked which I dont have an explanation for

Participantgood info, thanks all. the children voices/baby-sounds thought gives me an idea. I know there was an episode where a gamecall maker said he made one that drew in a bigfoot from like 400 yds away almost in an instant.
if they emit infrasound, and it doesnt scramble their brain, then they must have some inner ear mechanism to short-circuit it, or they are immune all together. They may have a similar mechanism to stifle their own high-Db screams as well.
Interesting thoughts on echolocation. I always carry a few [large caliber] metal objects with me when afield. 😉
I too like to hunt in light rain and into a slight breeze. I have snuck up on bedded deer a few times in those conditions so I think it may be possible to surprise a squatch the same – although I would NEVER want to !
I agree they likely have more rods (than us) than cones as many, many reports cite the eye shine which we dont have.
Infrared vision – yea, maybe. I think caribou and maybe elk and deer have that. It may explain why they like to hunt at night. I have seen tracks from deer that have turned away or skirted trailcams that I have deployed, especially later in the season when they ‘learn’ where the cams are. Now that could be the noise emitted by the cams as well .
