ParticipantPerhaps a lumber tag on the headlight was a less intrusive reminder that they’re closely watching your every move than let’s say…
finding a massive 12 inch diameter log tree structure built on top of your vehicle from front to back.
Or, if the lumber tag was an act of Sasquatch humor then that would be the more gentle delivery than let’s say…
finding evidence that a whole family of them stopped by to dump loads of steaming dung on your vehicle.
Anyway, it really is a curios event to find a lumber tag stuck to your headlight!!
Might have been a good time to take out the finger print equipment for this one.
Good luck with your hunt for the hairy, beastly culprit!August 22, 2021 at 8:26 pm #193814Gary B

ParticipantThe year 1962 was not just the year for introducing me to the mystery bell sound. It is also the same year I was playing/climbing on a massive group of granite boulder’s that were over-layed in such a way that small crevasse and a small network of caverns could be found below the rock surfaces…just the right sizes for kids play. At the top of this granite boulder structure was a reasonably flat area where about a dozen, fairly deep, Native Indian grinding holes rested.
One day I headed to my granite playground resting below the Oaks, Pines and Manzanita. There would be the usual Blue Jay’s and tree Squirrel barking at me in objection of my presence on the boulder’s. But, on this day of my arrival, things were very quite as I climbed to the top. I headed for the small crevasse that I always enjoyed jumping across. As my two legs were positioned in a mid-air jump stance, a large animal jumped out of the crevasse, flying out and between my two legs.
In one leap it landed not much more than 10 feet next to me. I looked at it closely but had no idea what it could be…I was only 9 years old and still had much to learn about wild animals living in the area. I only recognized the resemblance of a big cat, a very large, tan colored cat with long whiskers that twitched as it stared at me. It also had a long tail that curved upward a bit. My young mind only saw a great big cat that did not look very friendly. Some teeth were visible and I could see its nostrils flexing with each breath. I thought it was sniffing me and perhaps in hind sight it really was?I decided I just had to go tell my folks right away about the interesting animal I jumped over. I turned and started to run home only after less than a minute of face to face contact. After my first few running steps I turned to look back at the mystery creature once more but it was already running away in the opposite direction. Arriving home safely, that was when I learned a few details about Mountain Lion’s and their typical habits. Of course, that was not my day to die. I did find out that running while in close contact with a Mountain Lion is never the best strategy!
