The overall risk of myocarditis – inflammation of the heart muscle – is substantially higher immediately after being infected with COVID-19 than it is in the weeks following vaccination for the coronavirus, a large new study in England shows.

The detailed analysis of nearly 43 million people was published Monday in the American Heart Association journal Circulation.

“We found that across this large dataset, the entire COVID-19-vaccinated population of England during an important 12-month period of the pandemic when the COVID-19 vaccines first became available, the risk of myocarditis following COVID-19 vaccination was quite small compared to the risk of myocarditis after COVID-19 infection,” the study’s lead author, Martina Patone, said in a news release. She is a statistician at the University of Oxford Nuffield Department of Primary Health Care Sciences in England.

“This analysis provides important information that may help guide public health vaccine campaigns, particularly since COVID-19 vaccination has expanded in many parts of the world to include children as young as 6 months old,” Patone said.

Myocarditis is the inflammation of the middle layer of the heart muscle wall, known as the myocardium. It is uncommon and typically triggered by a viral infection. Myocarditis can weaken the heart muscle as well as the electrical system that keeps the heart pumping normally. The condition may resolve on its own or with treatment, or it may lead to lasting heart damage.

Previous research from around the world, including reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has shown a potential increased risk of myocarditis after receiving an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.

In the new study, researchers analyzed records from England’s National Immunization database for nearly 43 million people 13 or older who had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine between Dec. 1, 2020 and Dec. 15, 2021. More than 21 million had received three doses of the vaccine – the initial two-shot regimen plus a booster. Nearly 6 million tested positive for COVID-19 either before or after receiving a vaccine. During the one-year study period, 2,861 people – or 0.007% – were hospitalized or died with myocarditis.

The analysis showed people infected with COVID-19 before receiving a vaccine were 11 times more at risk for developing myocarditis within 28 days of testing positive for the virus. But that risk was cut in half if a person was infected after receiving at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The risk for myocarditis increased after receiving the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, and after a first, second and booster dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. But the risk of myocarditis associated with the vaccine was lower than the risk associated with COVID-19 infection before or after vaccination – with one exception. Men under 40 who received a second dose of the Moderna vaccine had a higher risk of myocarditis following vaccination. The Pfizer and Moderna mRNA vaccines are available in the U.S.

“It is important for the public to understand that myocarditis is rare, and the risk of developing myocarditis after a COVID-19 vaccine is also rare,” co-author Nicholas Mills said in the release. Mills is a professor and the Butler British Heart Foundation Chair of Cardiology at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. “This risk should be balanced against the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccines in preventing severe COVID-19 infection. It is also crucial to understand who is at a higher risk for myocarditis and which vaccine type is associated with increased myocarditis risk.”

For example, women 40 and older receiving a first or third dose of the Pfizer vaccine had a respective three and two extra cases of myocarditis per 1 million women vaccinated. But there were an estimated 51 extra cases of myocarditis associated with COVID-19 infection before vaccination.

Among men under 40, there were an estimated four extra cases of myocarditis associated with the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine and 14 extra cases with the first dose of the Moderna vaccine for every 1 million men vaccinated. That risk rose with the second dose for all three vaccines studied and was highest for Moderna’s, which had an additional 97 myocarditis cases per 1 million. For unvaccinated men under 40 with COVID-19, there were 16 additional myocarditis cases per million.

“These findings are valuable to help inform recommendations on the type of COVID-19 vaccines available for younger people and may also help shape public health policy and strategy for COVID-19 vaccine boosters,” study co-author Julia Hippisley-Cox said in the release. She is a professor of clinical epidemiology and general practice at the University of Oxford.

“The SARS-CoV-2 virus continues to shift, and more contagious variants arise,” she said. “Our hope is that this data may enable a more well-informed discussion on the risk of vaccine-associated myocarditis when considered in contrast to the net benefits of COVID-19 vaccination.”

There are a lot of articles about how this graphene idea is just people makkng things up for some reason using really vague wording and no real proof. I always wonder why people would post something like that. Are they getting paid by someone to sow propaganda? Are they a paranoid and do this to relieve their paranoia? Are they just so unversed in science they believe anything they see on the internet? I don’t know but its sad to see Sasquatch Chronicles Forums being used to spread disinformation and that my subscription monies are supporting this in some way.

Free speech doesnt mean you can say anything you want. When you spread disinformation say like those who have taken the vaccine are now a threat to nonvaccinated individuals with no real proof – some nutcase who believes you will take matters in their hands. Thats why its bad.

Here is more info on this graphene conspiracy theory.

After this year i will not renew my subscription because these boards are rampant with people posting nonsense. Thats fine if you want to do this but once you start pitting one group against another you are doing something dangerous.

there is no graphene in the vaccines

    https://phys.org/news/2021-10-graphene-miracle-material-singled-covid.amp

Vaccinated people arent shedding graphene. These types of articles are propaganda meant to stoke hatred and violence by unvaccinated people towards the vaccinated.

While Im not a cheerleader for WHO, There may be a good reason to do this. We saw during the Trump Admin a leader who basically was suggesting that we could inject bleach into our veins to get rid of covid. Unfortunately there were people who did this and died. In addition the Initial response to Covid was slug like so much that we lost more people than was necessary. Finally there is a culture war on science in this country because a dumb population cant keep a democracy and so I fear that the next republican leaders will use that to convince a dumbed down populous to ignore the next pandemic. Better to have an organization who has science based facts to dictate our path as we are incapable in many state to protect our people. At least we wont be told to drink rat poison or inject ourselves with bleach. Besides WHO has no army so what are they gonna do to us if we dont follow them? Say “Follow our rules!” a second time! Wed just give them the finger.

I have no belief that the democratic party will be able to hold off the republicans in the next election so i see bleak times ahead until we figure out that fascism is bad, hate is bad and willfull ignorance is a destroyer of democracies. We live in interesting times.

Nice graph but you have time on one scale and no definition of”Protective Efficiency” on the vertical axis so there is no way to really know what this plots. In addition this article is written by someone with one name (Like Prince? or Madonna or a username) which tells me its an opinion piece and ill assume this person is not willing to give his full name. Finally – there is no link to the originsl study which gives me a big red flag.

Now this all may be true but it literally is either gossip or worse someone trying to make you believe something that’s not true. Besides for the folks who died of Covid not only in the us but around the world natural immunity didnt work out for them very well now did it.

    This link

    Vaccinations

is a site that is put out by Brown University where they do a lot of work with vaccines and pharma companies that make them. What is nice is thst for each section you have links to the published papers which means you can read them for yourself and make up your own mind rather than have your opinion spoon fed tou you by people with one name snd no original source materials. Their work shows that vaccines during covid saved lives and that those who are dying now are those who never got the vaccines for whatever reason. Now this means reading a lot and digesting the large amounts of information so you cant look at this for 10 minutes and and just figure it all out. On the otherhand you can then have knowledge (which is the most powerful thing) and make up your mind as to if its bull or not. Just realize that someones opinion doesnt trump real data and making up your own mind. When people feed you what you are supposed to think be wary.

Thanks for posting this. Doesnt surprise me that the immune system would take a hit. Since COViD can kill you and these issues are controllable with meds you can make a choice as to if you wish to get the vaccine. After all taking a vaccine of any kind has risks and you need to make the call for yourself. Im all for better living through science and i dont want to die of covid snd i dont want my friends to die because i infected them with covid.

Im glad they are keeping this data. Its these kinds of data that can be used to track people in case there are problems – because the vaccine was deployed quickly. Makes sense to me.

Interesting opinion piece. No information corroborating the accusations so all you can say is – well thats their opinion – cant tell if its true or not.

Interesting. I cant make resonable comments on some of this because the hyperbole is in the stratosphere. However I can talk about scientists as i am one. I am sure somewhere there is a scientist being paid by big pharma big bucks but the vast majority of the scientists i have worked eith over the past 40 years would not fake data and would quit before they did that. Why? Because if someone found out uour career is done. A lot of jobs arent like this – you can recover. There is no recovering from this in science. Another issue is that we typically arent paid very well compared to other jobs with equal academic requirements. I probably earn more than 95% of all scientists but thats helped by corporations paying those fresh out of school very little. Its more likely that falsifications of data happen when managers and administrators get the results. Plety of examples of that.

Everything humans touched is influenced. This is nothing new in the world. It is the nature of who we are – some influence for bad and others for good.

What i am hearing a lot of on this thread are accusations against the mRNA vaccines. Ive seen videos of CEOs who claim their industry is suffering from this and articles or videos with other anecdotal information. Im making no claims that the vaccines are perfect but anecdotal information doesn’t translate into truth. Even if people that you know die 5, 10, 100 or 1000 days after a vaccine doesn’t mean thats the cause – correlation is not causation. Even with this surge of rare cancers. Given that the vaccines don’t keep you from getting Covid but rather keep you from ending up in the hospital its just as likely that this increase in rare cancers could be due to the virus itself. We know that many cancers are triggered by virus and that is as likely a reason as the vaccine causes these cancers.

Humans have a need to try and make sense of their world and we have had a whole lot of s&it go down in the last few years. So i get people trying to make sense of things but i want to see a controlled study on this before i vilify an industry. I may be wrong and cause more harm than good.

Peer reviewed journals are part of the way the world does work. Works quite well in some cases actually. When you bring information into the light for all to see then people can repeat your work and verify it or they can repeat it and show it was false.

When you have people testifying in front of congress however your hearing the echos of lobbyists. Both sides do this – and there is no shortage of theatrics (many act like children) so probably best to let them go and play in their own sandbox.

Why are you assuming i think this is somekind of right wing conspiracy? Ive not said anything about politics here. Do you automatically think that people who dont agree with you are liberals with some axe to grind? Im not sure why you would believe this. You dont know who i am or what i do. Youd be surprised actually if you did know anything about me ir my political views.

As far as dodging the bullet i have never had covid because i have had to isolate myself as i have a compromised immune system and if i did get it i would probably die of respiratory failure. I did take all vaccines and had no problems. I dont know if thsts dodging a bullet or not

Think about what I have said. Your clearly a smart individual and i wish you the best.

I never really trust anything like this held in the political circus called congress. Both sides are corrupt and my guess is that these experts are being paid for their testamony. Its all garbage. If they believe this then they need to publish their studies in a peer reviewed journal and let the truth be placed outside the political circus.
