Peter William Mayhew (19 May 1944 – 30 April 2019) was an English-American actor, best known for portraying Chewbacca in the Star Wars film series. He played the character in all of his live-action appearances from the 1977 original to 2015’s The Force Awakens before his retirement from the role.
Peter Mayhew, the original Chewbacca, has died, according to his agent. Mayhew, 74, died on April 30 with his family by his side in his North Texas home. He is survived by his wife, Angie, and three children.

Now he can watch after R2-D2 and Lea. When I first saw it on the news I screamed NO! My 17 yr old daughter came running into the room to asked what happened. I was told I’m nuts.lol RIP Chewy!
