A listener writes “I want to tell you about a distinct encounter with the infamous lights back in 2012. Did not see any distinct creatures in full light, but let me tell you about it.
My girlfriend and I had decided to go camping at the top of a small mountain near where my parents live in western Massachusetts, east of the Berkshires right on the Connecticut River. This hill is pretty thickly wooded and has farms and houses bordering the forested edges. All told, it’s probably about 2000 acres of woods up there. No development once you get past my folks’ place, just old farm fields fading into woods. It’s your very typical New England farm/forest mixed in with suburban development.
So anyway, we headed up to an old fire pit at the hilltop around sunset and set up our tarp tent, got a little fire going. Things were going well for a while until I noticed a little light moving around about 40 yds out from the fire. Just then I noticed there were several of them, and they looked like LED headlamps when they’re so dim they’re about to die. These were quite dim, no brighter than a firefly, and for a second I thought maybe be that’s what they were, but we were on a wooded hilltop quite far from any grassy habitat, and I’ve never seen fireflies that far into the woods.
What happened next cleared any lingering notion of firefly theories. They all began to move back and forth at about my eye level (I’m 6’1”), but not moving any closer or further. The strangest thing was that these appeared to be the height of a man walking around, and this forest is covered with sticks and leaves with no trail where these were located, but I heard no footsteps or leaf rustling at all. At the range they were at, any person wearing shoes or even without would make quite a bit of noise moving the way they did. At that point I started to think maybe these were kids being stupid, or worse, thieves or other criminals, so I asked them to identity themselves because my girl was getting freaked out. I got no answer, so I held up my .22 and said if they didn’t come clean I was gonna open fire.
The moment I said that, every light(there were at least 5-8)went out as if they were on a circuit of Christmas lights that got the plug pulled. That’s when the cold shiver hit me and I realized I probably wasn’t dealing with a human entity. I came back over to the fire and we decided to stick it out at camp because we didn’t want to be walking back a mile to the road in the dark with whatever that was. Like I said, it was dark and I didn’t get a good look at any details of the faces or bodies of whatever these things were, but they were definitely at least as tall as me and seemed to have human like movement and silhouettes. There were definitely little dim lights associated with each individual, not like a big orb, but they all went out like a switch was flipped the second I issue a warning.
I don’t think a bunch of teenage pranksters could have pulled off that kind of coordination and stealth. It does make me wonder if we were investigated by a curious Sasquatch group. The only other places my mind goes are either aliens or possible spirits of Wampanoag tribespeople. There were multiple camps of natives at various parts of that hill, according to an old lady who knew a lot about the town’s history, and a fierce battle had taken place in that town during King Phillip’s War between the English and Natives. I’ve always wondered. Hope to chat with you on the show if this story is worthy. It’s all true. Sometimes I wish it wasn’t because of all the questions and paranoia it’s brought me all these years.”
