JC Johnson Passed Away

Below is a quick bio of JC but I want to say I spoke to JC twice and I was taken back by his knowledge and love for the subject. He was very kind and we exchanged information for two brief conversations.

JC Johnson, considered by some to be the “Indiana Jones of Cryptozoology,” founded and leads a group of dozens of enthusiastic and determined researchers focused on a variety of strange and mysterious creatures in the Four Corners area of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. This group’s research includes Bigfoot, giant snakes, living dinosaurs, werewolves, dagons, giant birds, pterodactyls, centaurs, Native American “Skin Walkers”, and other cryptids frequently reported in this wild and remote region. Johnson has been a professional river and outdoor guide for more than 20 years. His experience, knowledge, attunement to nature and undying faith make him a driving force in the field of Cryptozoological and Paranormal research.

He will be missed. If I am not mistaken, it was a sample of his used in the Ketchum study to map the Bigfoot DNA. I think taken from blood obtained from a large pvc pipe where it was alleged a Bigfoot pounded through the pipe to go after a skunk. A terrific guy, wish I could have met him and thanked him for all the great work.

Sounds like he lived a fun and exciting life. Who wouldn’t love chasing cryptids around? RIP, and thanks for walking the point regarding subject matter that most scoff at. Your work will live on…

I really enjoyed listening to JC, he was so knowledgable and shared every detail of his experiences with us. I remember one in particular occurred in the Durango, Colorado area on a river canoeing trip. Things took a turn for the worse and he and his partner entered some kind of time warp replete with missing time, strange colored sky’s and slow-motion muffled sounds and physical action. It was totally fantastical but coming from him it sounded very sincere, he explained exactly what he experienced, take it or leave it. He will be missed, rest in peace.

Yeah I’m pretty sure JC and I had the same thing. It really is nothing to play around with. I think if I was 10-15 years older that walking pneumonia would have done me in. It’s some sort of hybrid pneumonia

JC personally set up a go fund me page on Jan 28th requesting help. He had not been able to work for several weeks..
he was in a medically induced coma due to pneumonia and died rather quickly.

So sad to hear. I enjoyed watching his videos and listening to his interviews, he wasn’t afraid to really go after the cryptids that most shyed away from. That flu certainly is nothing to play around with. Prayers go out to his loved ones.

I’m gutted to hear about this. What a terrible loss to the community. What a wonderful guy. Easily one of my favorite story tellers. I remember when I first heard him several years ago in an interview, I found his YouTube channel and subscribed. Much to my amazement, he subscribed back! I virtually NEVER post on YouTube, and the stuff I post is stuff I would think someone like JC would have zero interest in watching, but the 2 or 3 videos I put up after he subscribed, he then liked and commented on! They had NOTHING to do with his field and were personal videos mainly to share with friends, and it was long after the mutual subscription. I was really just impressed with what a genuine, sincere, down to earth guy he was. I felt incredibly loyal to him after that. He will be missed by so many. ❤️❤️❤️

It had been awhile since I lasted spoke with JC, but we’d had some very good in depth conversations in the past years. He’d encouraged me to come down into his area to help research and I never got to it- I truly regret not making the time. He was a very good man, always kind and honest with me. A long distance mentor of sorts. He held a treasure trove of information after all his years in the field of Cryptozoology. I will genuinely miss him. This is so very sad. RIP JC. My prayers are being sent for his loved ones.
