Think Anomalous writes “UFO sightings amongst airline pilots are relatively common, but the sightings of Japan Airlines flight 1628 on November 17, 1986 are notable for the wealth of supporting evidence. An official FAA investigation revealed cockpit recordings, radar data, and eyewitness interviews that all attest to a truly remarkable encounter, and an official government cover-up.”

Truly one of the great UFO encounters that has been dramatized several times on the cable channel UFO shows’ like History Chanel for years now. And one in which a fantastically large roundish craft of maybe a mile in diameter or more was involved.

I think this one made national news also at this time, 1986. At that time I lived in Cathedral City, CA (Palm Springs area). My next door neighbor was a WWW2 pilot and retired United Airlines Pilot, absolutely great neighbor. I asked him if he had ever seen a UFO and he told me of a couple experiences he had. At that time and up through about 1996 it was not unusual for me to ask anyone that was a pilot of UFO sightings, and a few would confide in me they had a sighting. The most fun I had was asking 3 and 4 star Air Force generals, usually retired, what they knew about UFOs. March AFB was close to the Palm Springs area and these generals like to visit our area. The looks I got from them could kill, and not one ever gave me an answer. I also knew about the place, Area 51 / Groom Lake before this area became mainstream thanks to Art Bell and Chuck Harder. Airline Pilots would tell me they were not allowed to fly over this area and did not know much about it or why. I did have one friend that was an ex Navy F4 Phantom Pilot during Vietnam. He and his wife would fly their Bi-plane to Palm Springs for the weekend often. He had big curiosity of any new knowledge I might have about UFOs.
