I grew up in northern Wyoming just outside Yellowstone Park. My dad was an avid hunter, outdoorsman and horseman. Because of this, I spent every weekend on the back of a horse, on a trail somewhere in the mountains in the summer and riding high desert trails in the winters.
My dad had a group of guys that he would often ride with, who all had sons about my same age, I didn’t think much of it and often fit right in on weekend rides.
One summer when I was about 15 or 16 around 1987, my dad and his friends planned a two week long pack trip through the Bighorn Mountains. The trip covering a couple hundred miles and never staying in one spot for more than a night. There were several pack strings and about 5 other men and their sons. I would be the only girl on the trip.
This would be an amazing adventure and new scenery for all of us because we usually rode the trails on the western side of the Bighorn Basin, North Fork and Sunlights areas.
We all rode gated horses, which are amazing in the mountains and can cover lots of ground at a quick pace without beating you up by the end of the day.
Our trip started right around Paint Creek trailhead. We rode on average about 10-15 miles a day, depending on where we planned to make camp for the night. The Bighorns have tons of mountain lakes and we often stayed at one, making it easier to water the horses at the end of a long ride. We often tried to set up a couple wall tents we all shared and still have enough time for some fishing or exploring.
About halfway through our trip we made it to Cloud Peak Reservoir. This place was beautiful and weather was good that day. We had experienced both rain and snow on a couple days. My biggest challenge on this trip was finding a place to use the restroom. Being the only girl and 16 years old, I was quite shy and would spend more time than anyone else hiking into forest for privacy.
Well as the men started unpacking the horses at our camp site for the night, I took off for my hike looking for the perfect place to pee. I remember walking up a small valley that climbed away from the lake. I was probably about a 1/2 mile from camp. Once I was sure none of the boys were around, I dropped my pants and squatted next to a tree. As I squatted there I suddenly realized that a large bush about 20 feet in front of me had a face about 6 feet up staring back at me. I still to this day can not tell you what I saw. I can tell you that this “person” had very dark hair and it was very messy. It just stood there and didn’t move, but I watched it blink and I believe it thought it was camouflaged and I couldn’t see it.
I grew up in the mountains and have seen and hunted all kinds and big game. I have had close encounters with both grizzly and black bears. I have seen mountain lions and bobcats. I can tell you that this was none of those.
When I noticed this hairy person watching me pee, I acted like I didn’t see I. I finished and walked right back to where my dad was setting up camp. I knew not to run or alert it that I was aware it was there. I immediately told my dad that someone was watching me up on the side of the mountain while I was there. He said that can’t be, there is no one else here. We hadn’t seen anyone else on any of the trails for days and we were deep in the mountains by this time. He said he would go take a look, and came back and said there was nothing there.
To this day, I can’t tell you what it was I saw, I couldn’t see it’s whole body because of the brush it was in, but it was large and very hairy. If it was a man, he needed a bath and shouldn’t of been creeping around watching a young girl drop her pants
.
I tell people my story sometimes and make light of it and say that Bigfoot watched me pee, but I know that what I saw was not normal and it left me with memories of seeing that face like it happened yesterday.
I have just recently started listening to your podcasts. Thank you, I have enjoyed all of them so far. They help me understand and feel better about my experience. I tell people about my experience, but usually make light of it and say Bigfoot watched me pee. They laugh and it helps people not think I am to weird and gives me a chance to get my experience out. Please let me know if you have any questions.”

Please, consider being on the podcast!

I spent 10 years hunting Elk in the Dunoir valley close to the park in WY. Didn’t see one buy it was pretty creepy at times, strong feeling of being watched.

Very interesting encounter. It would be great to have this person on the show to fill in more details. A group of 10 of us heard a Sasquatch type call on a walk into Grizzly lake near west Yellowstone in 2011 that area is got to have some of these creatures in it. I’m super interested in hearing her full encounter.
