It Was About 40-45 Feet Away

A listener writes “About 9 years ago I was camping my St. Helens area had my tent and everything set up. My friends and I were sitting by the campfire just after eating when we heard this super loud yell/scream- real eerie.

I immediately started thinking of every wildlife I knew of in that area, but none even came close to that sound.

I have to admit it scared me so bad I ran to my truck told the friends I was with to lock the doors, as it kept screaming that hair raising sound out and was close by, like 75 feet away. Then it got quiet so we got out of truck started taking down tent and sleeping bags etc.

My friends were so scared they literally did not take time to roll things up or pack. They just threw it in truck. We were not quite done – we had the campfire to put out, plus lantern, and a few camping stuff when this hair raising scream came out but it was closer – like 50 feet away!

I looked into the darkness, scanning hard to try and see if I could see what it was, then I saw it. It was about 40 45 feet away slightly bent looking right at us from behind this fir tree that was only about 20 feet high and parting the branches to see us.

I saw it very clear we rushed back in the truck locked the doors .My friend was yelling at me to go.

But scared as I was I still did not want to leave my stuff behind. Then we did not see it anymore. It had moved and by that time was somewhat too dark to see clearly so we made a plan for one to shine the flashlight while the others finished loading the truck and put the fire out too. My friend, scared to death said that they would get the stuff in the truck while I managed the light I agreed so on three we got out. I shined the light all around us, first in all directions.

We did not see anything, so on three we got out and my friend was scrambling literally throwing stuff not packed but just crumpled up and stuffed in truck making this scared nervous talk/ whimpering sound, and even though I was scared too, I was laughing which made them mad cussing me out for doing it.

We had the fire and lantern to go when like 25 feet maybe 30 feet away but from a different location that it was before, the creature screamed that hair raising sound out. We ran for the truck again, stuffing my friend in passenger side and telling them to quickly slide over. It seemed like forever, as I was pushing them and being yelled at with them saying, “I’m trying!”

Finally, I thought I had enough room to get in, but it wasn’t quite. I stuffed my way in, not quite being able to shut and lock the door but it was so loud and close and I could not see it good at that time.

I felt like it was (visions of) it coming up on me. Finally, I was able to shut the door, lock it, and my friend was yelling at me to go, but I wasn’t in the driver’s seat, and they didn’t have the keys. Plus the yell was right in front of us and the only way out.

So once again, I managed to calm them down some enough to make them realize I was talking some sense, by waiting and watching, then after a bit of quiet I said I was going to go out put the fire out and grab the lantern, so I did, scared like I’ve never been so scared ever in my life, it once again let out shorter screams, but I was basically done and climbing in the truck at the same time shutting the lantern off, and trying not to get burnt off of it as I put it between my legs on the floor of the truck .

I locked the door and we made another plan to let it calm down and shine the flashlight in front of us planning our way out, as there was tall and big for all in front of us which was a zig saggy path in between them out to the gravel road.

So we got the way out in our heads, clear shut the flashlight off waited about 5-10 long minutes, and I told them start the truck turn lights on get your path I’ll watch and scan for it. On the count of 3, they started my truck, turned on the head lights. I said, “Don’t miss the path!”, as it was windy and narrow. I scanned and said, “Go boy!” They stormed out, zigzagging all the way out to the gravel road, with a scared whimpering cry, which I couldn’t help but laugh (I guess that was my way of controlling my fear somewhat)

We made it to this campground 5 miles away where other people were camping, set our tent up and got in it. Once we were in our sleeping bags, we were talking about our experience and how scared we were and how no one would believe us. We did not get much sleep that night nervous as we were only 5 miles away and thought that it might come following the scent of the truck or something. But we made it through the night.

We got up very early, somewhat packed what we took out … tent and sleeping bag and put them in truck, and drove back to the single camp spot we were at the night before, but did not drive in it was very light out so we felt better as we walked in to where we were camping. We saw foot prints in the hard dirt pathway did take pics with my phone I could barely see the foot prints.

So I could tell and make out the footprints that I took on my phone but it was not as clear as it was in person. Also we got up to where the campfire was and the wood that I poured water on to put the fire out was no longer inside the rock circle but were laying across the edge on top of the rock circle in a square pattern. And foot prints around the campfire, then heading to the back where the trees grew thicker.

When we got home, we did not bother to unpack as we were beyond exhausted, got a couple hrs sleep then while still very wired and shaken up, we got on computer on internet and found a sight that had some sounds of Bigfoot exactly what we heard. We did massive research on it, even reported it to this one sight but never heard nothing from it.

But we did see it very clear – its face, part of its body chest, arm, and part of legs.

I have to say I’ve always been a skeptic on it, but after seeing it that close that clear and that terrifying night following I Know for a fact they are real and as far as my friends … they do to but are still scared to this day to talk about it.”
