It Turned And Looked At Me

A listener writes “I was about 15 or 16 camping with my friends on land that surrounds Hardy Dam that connect to the Manistee national Forest in lower Peninsula of Michigan at about 10 pm I had walked the mile back to my house to grab some hotdogs on my way back just as I was getting up to where we were camping I seen what i assumed was my dad watching / checking up on us it wasn’t him when I called out to him and said Jerry I see you it stood up at 30/50 yards away I act had to move my head to see how tall it was it was covered in hair I could see so well because the moon just was so very very bright.

When it turned and looked at me I knew what I was seeing but did not know what it was I had at this time lived in two different states other then Michigan and this was not a bear but I will never get over the fact it the way it reacted when it seen me . After what seemed like days which in reality was only 30 seconds maybe it cleared a 75 to a 100 yard opening in a speed I cannot explain on two legs this thing was fast real fast I could see it’s hair like flutter as it ran if you asked me the color I would say the same as the moonlight it wasn’t red or brown maybe black or white that reflected the moon light If that makes since I did not tell the guys what I had seen I don’t know why how do you explain it they would of thought I was crazy if you contact me I can go into further explanation about my past and why it took me so long to ever mention it I had enough going against me at the time I didn’t also need to be the crazy kid who seen monsters ! The rest of that night we had rocks thrown at our campsite more like pebbles nothing big that could hurt us to say more like picking at us the next morning I told the guys I was cutting the camping trip short and going home. I just made up a excuse and left so did they.”

MICHIGAN – YES ! I live a mile away from the Manistee River in the lower Peninsula , but I am closer to Hodenpyle Dam. And I seen that 10 foot Tall Gorilla maybe 3 miles as a Crow flies Northwest of Hodenpyle Dam. You got My Interest !

I had a feeling you might weigh in Jay as I figured you know a bit about this region. I grew up in Midland, but made a number of trips up the 115 in my early years in the 60s and 70s. Salmon fishing out of Frankfort, snow skiing at Caberfae outside of Cadillac and Sugar loaf in the Leelanau Peninsula, and for to brief a time to visit a girlfriend in Beulah, and of course the Sleepy Bear Sand dunes as a kid during the first vacation I remember on Glen Lake. Beautiful area. Sorry to ramble – just brings back many great memories. This is a beautiful area you live in and how neat to see a 10 footer. I have no idea the true size of the one I saw in Roscommon County – it was to far area in a swamp terrain. I am also curious if you have any thoughts on the strange death of Cullen Finnerty a few years back outside of Baldwin?

It would be neat if this listener comes on and to know the time of year. In the fall the salmon come up the Muskegon River to spawn and die which surely would be an attraction for the Sasquatch. I have seen salmon on both the Muskegon and Pierre Marquette Rivers in this area so thick after coming in from Lake Michigan you could walk across the river on them back in the late 60s to early 70s.

Hi Darren G. Elaborate on your experience if you would like to. I have snowmobiled in this area a couple of times over 10 years ago and stayed up at Wolf Lake. I will not rehash the death of Cullen Finnerty ( although I did watch him play a couple of time as his college Grand Valley State is in the same conference as my college Northwood University ). Maybe the most interesting and telling part of his strange death is that they were pinging his phone and reported moving around at speeds of 20 mph through the woods in waders. If true, this is far outside the possibility of any human. Anyway I would like to hear your experience. I am convinced by both reports and experiences of my own that the Manistee/Huron National Forest are full of these Sasquatch.
