It looked like a big hairy kid

My wife, kids and myself lived in Waiparous Village from 1998 to 2006 in a log home near the confluence of Waiparous Creek and the Ghost River.

Both waterways are full of brook trout, rainbows and whitefish and easily accessible. I worked at AEC (Encana/Cenovus now) in downtown Calgary.

I love to fish and would often have a friend, Dan I used to work with visit for the weekend for fishing and beers. One morning outing we walked from my cabin to the bridge that the forestry trunk road crosses the Waiparous creek to fish downstream starting from under the bridge. Dan crossed the bridge to fish on the south side and I stayed on the north side, where we walked from. We staged directly across from each other. The creek is maybe 30 feet wide. We were fly fishing, and taking turns casting nymphs upstream under the bridge and dragging them by us downstream. Always a successful spot.

After one of my casts and slowly stripping line, I am slowly pivoting left as I let the nymph pass and move down stream.

As I am in line with Dan, I look at him. Beside him…maybe 10 feet to his right, my left, was what looked like a big hairy kid…not a huge 600 pound 9 foot tall monster, but a maybe 6 foot tall hairy kid. Leaning over towards him with…curiosity. I yelled at him, he wheeled around, and like a cartoon they both threw their hands up in surprise and this individual pivoted 180 degrees and launched like a sprinter so fast it seemed instantaneous. Think an Olympic runner coming out of the chalks when the starting gun goes off. Dan froze, I dropped my rod and started crossing the creek to get to his side. By the time I got to him it was gone.

Where it was “gone” to was a problem. It took off towards where the creek wrapped around to meet the Ghost River, and there was a 60 foot cliff on the outside of the creek. Dan’s side was also a very small thumb shaped peninsula. It had no way to come back our way.

I told Dan it launched fast. Dan said it just went “poof” and was gone. BTW. I had a camera. Easily accessible. I never once thought about it.

I don’t mind telling my friends and family about this story, but I am reluctant to tell the Bigfoot world about it because it doesn’t fit the big monster mold.

Thank you for the forum and opportunity to bring this forward.”

It might not fit the monster mold, but it sure fits the youngster Bigfoot mold of embolden curiousity towards us and sometimes wanting to play with us. Also there off the charts athleticism at a young age. Hope to hear from this gent on The Show.

That’s a great story! Can you imagine how scary that would be to spin around and see something like that? Good grief! I probably would have fainted on the spot! Funny they had the same reaction, throwing up their hands. Thank you Wes! Wow.
