It disappeared into the darkness

A listener writes “I listen to your show all the time. I’ve probably heard 2/3 of them so far. I have my own list of experiences but have been nervous about sending you this email. I will apologize ahead of time for being so lengthy….So here goes…

I really never thought anything about Bigfoot before 2014. It was a subject that just didn’t cross my mind much, even though I had heard about them a little. My first experience happened in 2000, but I didn’t figure out what it was until 2014.

I was living in Leon County, Texas, I was renting a really old Victorian house built in the late 1800’s, milled off their own land I was told, in their own lumber mill. It had a large S shaped porch across the southern and eastern sides (front and right), with round columns. The floors sagged a bit. I could see for miles from the property.

About an acre was fenced off around my house for a yard, with old metal gates in front and back, which I always kept open. The house sat back off the road a bit. In the front, there was a small pasture before you reached the fenced-in yard. My sandy driveway came up on the left side of that pasture. There was a livestock gate even with the front fence of my yard. There was an old corral and barn inside that fenced area.

Along the fence on the left, which divided my yard from the drive area, there use to be a row of extremely large cedar trees. Someone had cut them down long time ago, leaving huge stumps. In between the stumps, shrubbery had grown… black walnut trees and privet bushes. Along the front fence were, on the outside of the yard, four old white-barked giant Sycamore trees. The trunks were so large, two people couldn’t wrap their arms around them. The leaves were bigger than my face.

The house sat on a 600 acre piece of property and was at least a quarter or half mile from the nearest house. It was situated as such on a bend in the highway, where the next neighbor down the road, had property that went across in the back of part of mine. The rest of the acreage backed up to the (Texas) Boggy Creek.

The neighbor down the road, lived in a lower area, so he had like 6 lakes behind his house, three which were fairly large. His property also backed up to the Boggy Creek. The house I lived in use to belong to his Aunt Maggie.

Almost nightly, my children and I would hear a loud, almost ghostly, howl from far off in the distance. My children would say fearfully, “What is it, Mom?!” I told them I didn’t know what it was. It was however, always followed by a pack of coyotes cackling like Hyenas.

In the summer of 2000, my children were gone to their father’s house in Dallas, Texas. I was home alone with my dog Lucy (catahoula/chow mix) and my 5 cats. My dog Lucy took care of the cats and cleaned them. She was the cleanest white dog I ever knew. I don’t remember the exact day of my experience. I do know that I had been talking on the phone with friends. It was night time.

Suddenly my dog Lucy started going crazy! She started talking/barking. (she was a dog that attempted to talk… super smart.) She’d do that when she was trying to tell me something. I could hear what was upsetting her this time. There was a whole pack of coyotes that had came up into my fenced yard area and they were yapping and cackling.

I had a pole out front with a big bell attached. The only light out there was a multiple globe lamp. Without thinking, I just ran out front and started ringing that bell and yelling, “Get out of here!” I repeated it over and over as I rang the bell. My dog Lucy would not leave the porch. She kept barking.

Then I ran out of the fenced area to the front pasture and kept yelling “Get out of here!” The coyotes took off. I ended up over on the left side, outside the livestock gate, looking into the dark shrubbery area next to my house. I couldn’t see anything there, but I did yell “Get out of here” anyway. Suddenly, something in the dark GROWLED at me! It was a deep threatening growl.

If I had thought of Sasquatch then, I probably would have wet myself! Instead, thinking it was a lesser animal, the flight or fight instinct kicked in with me. From how I was raised, flight never came into play. Instead, I have a fight instinct. I was also an avid deer hunter for most of the years of my childhood, and was very familiar with coyotes. Our deer lease was in the Texas Hill Country.

My very first thought was, “Well, that’s weird! Coyotes don’t normally growl at people!” My first response was, “Oh yeah? I’ll just get my truck (Ford Ranger) and run right over you!” And without thinking, I ran into the house, grabbed my keys, and went out and jumped into my truck (which was parked just outside my yard gate by the Sycamores.). I started her up, backed her up real quick like, and then aggressively drove towards the livestock gate with my bright lights beaming. I had hope to scare the creature off.

The whole time I was doing this, the confusion of the coyote growling at me, was still on my mind. The old man down the road had told me that sometimes young dogs will join coyote packs and breed hybrids. I was thinking, why would any wild canine stand its ground and growl at a human, when the human is yelling at them… most would run away… unless it were a wolf possibly… don’t know. But you would think so after all my bell ringing and yelling.

Anyway, at that very moment when I slammed my brights onto the gate, I saw something run off to the left, towards the pasture that connects to my neighbor’s property. I only saw it for just a second in the beams of my headlights. It basically ran across in front of my truck. It was down on all fours, and had very long gray hair on it’s back, that was split like a part, straight down the center of it’s back. I could see gray skin under the hair, as the hair was long and moved and was not that thick. I caught only a glimpse of the side of the face, mostly the temple and cheekbone area. I could not see it’s feet or hands or whatever. They were below the level of my headlights and in very tall grass.

It disappeared into the darkness, in the tall grass of the pasture next door. With my adrenaline going sky high, I backed my truck up again, turned around and peeled out of my driveway, heading towards Mr. Spiller’s place. I was aggressively going after the thing. I could see the creature running across the pasture on all fours, but it’s body was still above the tall grass (knee to thigh deep). I could not make out any details from the road. As the road bent to the right towards my neighbor, the creature veered off to its right, heading towards Boggy Creek or my neighbor’s lakes, and disappeared from my view.

I wondered for years, what kind of creature that was. It just didn’t fit anything I had ever seen or heard before. It wasn’t until I moved to where I am now, north of Huntsville, TX, and started having experiences here at home, did I realize what I had encountered back in 2000. I now live on 3/4 wooded acres in a rural neighborhood, backed up by a deep creek that feeds into the huge Harmon Creek, which then feeds into the Trinity River. There are a few empty lots around my lot. This was my mother’s property from 1987 until she passed in 2010. She did not go outside much, unlike me.

There was a shelter at the back edge of my mother’s property. I thought maybe children had made it. In 2014 I caught my first photographic images, merely by accident. It brought back memories. I started watching and listening and reading everything I could get my hands on. In 2015, I had an interaction with one for a couple of weeks, where it would whistle at me and I’d whistle back. The interaction ended just a few days before the Texas Bigfoot Conference (which I first time went to). That last night, I stepped out to the dark of my backyard waiting for a whistle. There was not one, so I whistled. I then heard a tree knock and suddenly an entire tree went down. I could not see it, but it was close and loud. I was very excited.

Anyway, without going into too much detail in this email, I have continued to have experiences, but have yet to see one eye to eye. I have lots of edibles back in the woods here, like grapes, blackberries, beautyberries, acorns, etc. etc… Sometimes I have more activity than other times. I am a Master Gardener and spend a lot of time working on my property. I have a tiki bar area and outside music system. I stay outside a lot, and sometimes late, playing mostly blues music.

I have heard gibberish talking, giggling, and sounds of something in pain. I heard “Rah!” once, and “What?” followed by more gibberish language. I’ve had rocks thrown at me three times. I’ve heard all kinds of weird sounds close by and when I’m in the woods. I go out there fairly often, but only in the daylight. I am also an professional artist and have done mural work outside here. One day I was gifted a large natural chalk rock that had obviously been used by someone else. I was gifted a stick once and had hanging colored beads moved too. Had one hair raising experience with high pitched screams right near me, followed by gibberish and very quiet chipper noises. That one made me get my gun out.

My last major thing was a couple of weeks ago, sitting outside at my tiki bar after dark, listening to my blues music. Just across my yard, where I could not see… I heard “Kathy” as clear as day, followed by more gibberish language (samurai like). Every single hair on my entire body stood up so quick, it felt like I had a zillion acupuncture needles stuck into me! I have never felt that before! No one calls me Kathy accept my family… but I have gone out into the woods, stood on the edge of the creek facing the thicket, and motioned my fist against my chest (like a chimpanzee does) and I say “Kathy”…. hoping to have them know I mean no harm. Obviously one learned how to say my name.

I can give you more details another time….”

Just wanted to say “thank you” to all of the brave souls who come forth to share their life-altering encounter experiences with the rest of us who are so amazed and in awe of this topic. Without you guys – we wouldn’t have this wonderful, educational resource here and would be a lot more ignorant of what is really going on out there.

Please do an episode, Kathy. Since you’re an artist, could you try to sketch what you saw in your first encounter? I’d love to know what the head looked like, and overall body shape. Thank you for coming forward.

Wes, you don’t get enough appreciation for all that you do in order to put on the show, write the blog, read the emails, read the comments, prepare for interviews, etc. etc. – all on top of working a full time job and maintaining family relationships!
I’m so grateful to you. Thank you!

Hello Kathy. Just read your very recent published report on the BFRO that was not as detailed as this is.

    http://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_report.asp?id=57935

Pretty dang cool what you have going on their. Once again it is a woman that they are more receptive towards. I hope Wes has an interview with you, most likely we can learn more. Since they may like the blues( A great choice for sure ) you could also put out a TV, I hear they like Sponge Bob.

Do be careful, but I wholly endorse what you are trying to accomplish and wish you good luck with your project and keep us up to date.

That was reported on a recent episode of the confessionals. Interesting episode from a week ago or so. The man claims he met a lady that allowed the young sasquatch in her house and fed them muffins. The adults would help her with her horses and firewood.
