A listener writes “I had an encounter with two Bigfoot in Alberta in October, 2022, while out scouting for a good hunting spot for elk. I was walking along a fence line of a grazing lease in heavy bush and muskeg. The bush had been cleared away from the fence about 6 feet so I had a good sightline should an elk step out. I was looking for a crossing point where animals would knock down the top line and cross over it from there.
As I was walking the line, I would encounter places where trees were across the fence between two posts about every 100 yards or so. I didn’t think much of it at the time because, in muskeg areas, trees often fall down. But, today, I think they were bridges for the Bigfoot to travel across. So, if you are looking to catch Bigfoot on camera, in cattle country, these “bridges” would be the places to set up on.
Anyways, back to the story. So, I am walking through muskeg that has standing water as well as lots of moss but every few hundred feet, there is a bit of a high ridge rising above the muskeg, with heavily used game trails on them. These ridges are only about 10 feet high and only about 30 feet wide before dropping into the muskeg again. So, I am going up and over them and get a good 200 yard “look” as I reach the top of them before descending into the muskeg again, with vision only to the next high ridge. Tough walking for a 66 year old, but I love the bush and am at my happy point while in it.
As I start ascending a high ridge again, my head pokes over the top of the ridge and….there…beside the fence, 50 yards away, I see a black object close to the ground in the muskeg. “Bear or wolf”, I instantly thought. No big deal, I see these animals all the time while hunting and have never shot a bear or a wolf yet, in my life. “If you ain’t gonna eat them, then don’t shoot them” has always been my hunting motto.
So, I am trying to figure out what it is. I focus intently on it. Long straight black hair on a cone shaped head transitioning into straight blonde hair on its back……”cinnamon bear”…was my next thought…..but…something is a bit odd here. It looks like….a head on some shoulders. I stared, focusing on it. I am really trying to make this look like some kind of bear because it is not a wolf or a calf moose either. Then, a movement to the left catches my eye. And…THERE….peeking out from behind a tree….is a chimpanzee face looking at me!!? WTF!!! I stare at it, shocked, but still trying to make it out to be a bear…or something. It has a round head, not cone shaped, straight black hair on its head, transitioning to blonde hair on its shoulders. It is standing behind a tamarack tree that is between yellow and green, fall colors. It has it’s hands on branches on each side of the tree trunk…and it has BLACK FINGERS griping the branches. WTF!? Is this a bear…..?!? I see it looking at me, trying to figure out what I am, since I am in full camo, head to toe. It knows I am there but it cannot “see” me. It moves its head from one side of the tree to the other, looking in my direction. It squats down and peers under a branch at me, then stands up and over the small tree looking at me. Then one side to the other side again. This goes on for over 5 minutes. I am looking at it and at the object on the ground by the fence. My mind is in turmoil as I am fiercely trying to make these out to be bears in my head! Then, “she” looks towards her “child” and steps out from behind the tree towards it!!!! She gives me the side view of her face as she steps out. THERE IS NO BEAR SNOUT OR CHIMPANZEE JAW!! It has a flat nose and ears like a human. It has no hair on its black shiny face, reflecting the sun’s rays off it’s skin. It turns and looks at me again…and then reaches out it’s arm towards the black object beside the fence. Its hand is in a half open position, hairless to the wrist. Then from wrist to shoulder, it has long straight blonde hair hanging down, maybe 10 inches long. It reminded me of tassels from a leather jacket. It was clean and well groomed, no branches, or twigs in its hair nor was it matted or unkempt. I had a clear view as it took that one big step out from the tree. The straight blonde hair went down to her knees then transitioned to black again. When she bent down to her child, I could clearly see her breast hanging down. It had short blonde hair on her breast, but was hairless around the aorta and nipple. Black skin on this.
She moved her arm and hand over to head of the black object by the fence and rapped its head with the back of her knuckles, hand half opened. Then she looked at it and then back at me, then stepped back behind the tree. She peered at me again, from this side of the tree, then the other side and then……disappeared into the thick bush on the left. Not a sound did I hear from her as she disappeared into the trees. I looked back at the black object by the fence. It was rocking back and forth, its back to me. Then, I started to get scared. Was it going to flank me or trap me? Was there a DADDY close by? Are they as protective of their kids as bears are? I didn’t even realize that I had a gun on my back. I slowly backed down off the ridge until I could not see the child any more. Then I turned and ran like hell! I ran through the bush following game trails in the direction I was going, 3 kilometers from my truck. When I got across the cutblock, I hid behind a tree to see if it was following. It was not, so I hightailed it back to my truck and got the hell out of there.”

Whereabouts in Alberta? I am in Saskatchewan. There is the odd sighting here too, mostly up north of Saskatoon.

Good report and very descriptive.

great account

Fascinating. My only sighting was one a long distance away, maybe 400 yards or more in a muskeg swamp known as nine mile muskeg just east of Houghton Lake in Roscommon County Michigan over 45 years ago.

We live 10 miles South of there approx….my husband has had many experiences with vocalizations while out in the woods between Houghton Lake and Meridith-no sightings. However, in 1990 we had a sighting while camping along the Sterling Truck Trail east of Gladwin County. This center part of Michigan is a hotbed of activity & sightings!
