A listener writes “Hello Wes, I just came across your podcast recently and have really enjoyed hearing everyone’s stories. I would like to tell you about a sighting I had in 1991.
I grew up in Louisville Ky and have always loved the outdoors, and in 1991 I was an 11-year-old boy scout.
My scout troop was in Perryville Ky for a scout gathering and to see the Civil War re-enactment of the Battle of Perryville. Perryville is a small town in Central Ky
that is surrounded mostly by farm fields with patches of forest here and there. My scout troop was camped just outside of town at a farm that many troops stayed on.
I was one of the younger scouts and the 1st night the older scouts took me out to go “Snipe Hunting”, a common prank that the older scouts like to play on the younger ones.
It was early fall, I think October, but I am not certain. About a dozen of us scouts were walking through a huge farm field that was lined with a wooded section down 2 sides at around 8-9pm.
We were about 25 ft from the edge of the tree line, and I had stopped to tie my boot when I heard rustling in the woods right next to me. I looked up and shined my flashlight at the noise and right next to a huge tree was what my 11-year-old mind thought was an Ewok, like from Star Wars. I assume it was a juvenile sasquatch. It was about the same height as me, maybe 4 1/2 ft tall and covered in hair. I remember its pupils dilatating when my light hit its eyes, they were huge. Almost its entire body was in my view with the exception of its right arm that was behind the tree.
After about 3 seconds of us staring at each other, it looked up to its right, and then it seemed as if something jerked it back behind the tree and out of my sight. I now believe that maybe its mother was there and pulled it out of view when it realized it was being seen. I yelled for the other scouts and took off running to tell my story where they all laughed and no one believed me.
That was my sighting story, and I do have an encounter story from 2012 if you would like to hear about that as well.”

Thank you for sharing this encounter. It must have been pretty scary for you at 11. As you look back on the memory now as an adult, do you still think what you saw resembled an Ewok?

I can see where an Ewok would be a good description of one in 1991 at 11 years of age. What an event for a young boy that at that time would probably never have known about these beings. It could not have been easy telling this story and getting the ridicule handed to you. On another note I did not know about the Battle of Perryville, KY. That was one bloody battle fought in October of 1962 with about 9000 casualties, but achieved success by driving the Confederate armies out of Kentucky.
