A listener writes “I had my encounter while deer hunting in 1993 in the northeast corner of Pennsylvania. My father and uncles started a hunting camp on this property in the early 70’s and it was 2200 acres, great hunting.
I was always intrigued to put a stand up on a area that we never hunted because it’s about a 40 minute walk from the camp but I finally gave in and headed out to scout the area about 3 weeks before the season. The area was all large fir and pine trees which made it darker than open timber areas but I saw a lot of deer sign and set up a spot for opening day . Well th day came and in the morning I headed out earlier than usual because of the 40 minute walk in the dark . When I arrived at the spot I chose I was excited about the day ahead, so I thought. Day break came slowly but surely and by 8am I hadn’t seen one deer. I decided to open my pack around 9am and have a sandwich. As I was eating it I heard a noise like a branch when its stepped on, so I thought here come some deer. I put the sandwich down and got my rifle ready , nothing, no more noise at all quiet for at least 15 minutes so I put my rifle down and started eating again. As I started to eat again I heard the noise of breaking branches and this time it was loud and continuous and coming from my left, I quickly grabbed my rifle and as I looked to my left I saw the black bear about 50 yards to my left slowly walking on his hind legs, that’s when I realized black bears don’t walk that far on two legs, as I picked up my rifle and put the scope on the bear so I thought the head was showing a human looking ear I was so frightened and realized this is not bear all I can say is this happened so fast as it went out of sight I didn’t waste anytime getting out of there. I still to this day can’t believe what happened.”

Oh Man! I’d love to hear his encounter! I wouldn’t have wanted to be in his shoes as he was sitting up in his deer stand and seeing sasquatch walking out of the woods…Yikes!
