I wanted to run but was too scared too

A listener writes “I guess first off I’ll start off with my encounter. My grandparents have a small cabin back in the woods in the Belmont, Nebraska area.

It’s 2 miles from the nearest roads and houses. But I remember one evening, (it was almost dark in the trees but thw sky was still lights)I was at this time probably around 10-12 I’m guess playing on the front lawn there and all of a sudden heard this really loud thing yell off in the distance  but I’d just rolled down the canyon the cabin is in. It freaked me out right away I ran inside and told my mom and dad who both didn’t hear it and said it was probably a cow. But I know now it was not after hearing the Puyallup screamer that my uncle showed me after he kept asking what I had heard he showed me that and said he had heard something very similar when he lived in the woods outside libby, Montana. After that I don’t recall really ever staying over night there until I was in my late teen and early 20s but even after all those years I always got this uncontrollable fear of going out to even the outhouse at night.

It wasn’t until I told a close friend about this that I found out he was pretty into the subject. So we made plans and decided to make a weekend out of going up there more to have a good time that night when we got there and then go hike around during the day. We got there after dark and I parked at the parking spot up above the cabin on a slight hill so we had to carry our coolers maybe 100 yards down hill to the cabin and 75 of that is all wooded on both sides of the trail. Me and my friend had got all the stuff to the cabin and started up the grill to cook some steaks and the girl I had brought with up noticed some missing stuff so he went to look for it and couldn’t find it so I went up there with him with my led flashlight and found the food on the ground in the trail but up higher on the hill than we would have walked and possibly dropped the bag. He was still looking in the car for a phone charger when I heard something on two legs walking down the heavy wooded and brush covered hill I froze to listen and it stopped. I walked closer to the car to get my friends attention and what ever was behind me on the hill moved again right as I went to walk and broke a huge sounding stick and my friends instantly stood up out of the car and looked at me and asked if that was me.

I was too scared to say anything  just shook my head and slowly walked to his side of the car. He shined the light up there and I just had a feeling that we did t wanna look and before the light actually hit the hill were the sound was I grabbed it and told him no. Nothing was said other than I asked if he was ready to head back he just took off running leaving me I wanted to run but was too scared to so I just walked back whit my hand on my glock 19 like I was ignoring the fact that I knew something was at the most 20 feet away from me in the brush. Once I got back he was freaking out wonder why I took so long to get to the cabin. I only mentioned  that something was in the trees to my mom nothing in detail. And a few months later my brother and his fiance had a 4th of July party up there with about 10-15 people and one couple had been arguing and went up to the parking lot to talk. They were setting in the back of his truck on the tail gate with there backs to the hill. When they both heard the same sound of something on two legs coming down the hill through the brush…. but ignored it and passed it off as someone from the party trying to mess with them.

Until the similar very large stick break caught there attention so he jumped off the tail gate and was starring up at the hill were the sound came from and said he could see a slight outline of a tall figure with huge wide shoulders and said he knew it wasn’t anyone from the party cuz this guy is 6ft 6 and like 300 ish lbs of muscle not a small guy at all and he said it was big enough he was terrified so he told his gf to look and she said no!!!! And wouldn’t look so he told her to head for the cabin and don’t stop so tge y walked towards it to the trail and down to the cabin. He didn’t tell my mom and brother about any of this until a few weeks later but he wouldn’t  say what he actually thought it was just that it wasn’t a man and it was bigger than him.”

Just for those who aren’t familiar with Nebraska….Belmont is in the extreme NW part of Nebraska it is adjacent to Oglala National Grassland, Fort Robinson State Park & Nebraska National Forest.

    I found this information from 2013 – http://www.cryptozoonews.com/nebraska2013/

My experience (only told 2 people in my lifetime about it) – which was an Hour or so North of one the areas (Linwood) mentioned when I was younger (still in HS) while I was running a trot line on the Elkhorn River. It consisted of having something thrown at me (to this day I still have no clue what) after what I thought was someone walking/crawling through some tall grass and being creeped out by the feeling someone was watching me. There was no vocalization “unfortunately?”
