I thought it was a person in a big puffy winter coat

A listener writes “I was bringing my father home to stay the weekend he lives in the montrose Va nursing home and we were talking, my daughter was sleeping in the back seat and I was driving cause dad can’t.

We were right on route 9 heading towards Poughkeepsie from Peekskill the road goes from two lanes to one about a quarter mile after the lane had turned into one.

We come up on this large right turn on the sides of the road. It had been all very close tree line to the road but in this one spot it opens up the tree line is cut back further towards the development. It’s a very large turn in because right next-door is like a yard where they have like dump trucks and other large utility vehicles sitting there.

There’s a car in front of me they already merged into the part of the road that was the one lane and I was still in the Tulane section but far enough back that I could see the complete escape mountain on the left side the Tulane Road where it turns into a one lane further up.

There was also a street light and then cut back tree line about 350 feet and I’m talking, but I’m watching the road as I’m talking and the car in front of me. Their brakes go on and I thought they were stopping so I started to slow down and when I slowed down, it looked like somebody jumped out of their car at first that’s what I thought.

I thought they slowed down enough for somebody to jump out of their car, but that’s not what I was actually looking at what I really saw when my mind finally computed it was in between the car in front of me and myself we were about 500 feet from each other. I see what I thought my mind at the time thought it was somebody in a big puffy winter jacket with like canvas work pants on. No, that is not what I saw at all. I was able to see this thing walk, across my whole body is filling with goosebumps as I’m saying, this walk across the road crossing from right to left in between me and the car in front of me.

So it was slightly illuminated by their brake lights just the running brake lights when you’re driving at night and from the street light, it looked like a kind of dark deep brown color but once I put my brights on cause I realize what I was looking at I could see it was super super dark like the street light was kind of amber colored so the reflection on the black fur made it kinda look like a deep chocolate color, but it was actually jet black.

By the time I actually was able to approach where it had crossed I only caught a glimpse of it back foot going into the tree line, and I had every hair in my body was straight up. It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen the speed the size I mean, thinking of how big it was and this little Toyota Camry that was in front of me.

I don’t know why my mind even allowed myself to think for one second that that was a regular person. It made the car look like a clown car like it was huge. It crossed very close to their car that’s why I thought it was somebody getting out of the car cause all I could see from where I was was brake lights and then two seconds later somebody run across the road like it happened so fast.

So I’m like holy shit somebody just got out of that car nope not at all. That’s not what happened at all. It was an amazing beautiful Big I’m guessing male and I’m only saying that because he was just so huge and muscular and yeah that’s what I saw.

The area you just described is where I live. I drive that route every day to work and every night in the way home. I have had things thrown into the road in the past, so much so that I no longer ride my motorcycle to and from work along Rt 9. The border of Putnam and Dutchess Counties along Rt 9 and the Taconic Parkway are pretty desolate, mostly state park property. The Appalachian Trail is right through this area and plenty of people have had questionable incidents along that part of the trail. I would lovebto set up trail cams in those woods someday.

Let’s do it! I went hiking there a couple of years back and there are these tree bends and spear like pieces stabbed into the ground that no way a person could do. One time went to an area where there was an alleged sighting and rock just dropped next to me in Carmel . Dacosta3080@yahoo.com is my email if you’d like to contact me
