A listener writes “I would have never believed it if I didn’t see it myself. I didn’t even know there was such a thing as bigfoot in Texas when this happened in 2021. I suppose at the time I thought bigfoot could be out there in the remote Canadian wilderness or something lol I had heard the legend but never gave it much thought or thought something like that would be in Texas until someone mentioned the Sam Houston forest as a bigfoot hotspot years later and I remembered my experience. I’ve done research and thankfully much more knowledgeable since then!
In 2021 when I had seen this I was 22 years old and very into fitness, biking about 30-80 miles a day some of it through the woods in the early morning and evening as The woodlands is a suburban community with many sidewalks perfect for long rides but I lived just outside surrounded by woods with no good routes to get there. So around 7am and then after the sunset at 8/9pm I would bike through a little area known as jones state forest but on the very left side of it where a dead end street of my neighborhood met up with a non pedestrian trail to a water tower and then if you kept going off of the actual dirt path through a beaten down trail in the woods you would reach the woodlands. All in all it was barely two miles total, the stretch through the woods going one way so I thought nothing of using it at night. Jones state forest is not actually a state forest so its sadly been shrinking in the recent years but once a few years ago, the highway it is on FM 1488 was fully covered in beautiful pines. At this time in 2021 1488 was undergoing major developments expanding west past 2978 where it had previously been completely wooded and the whole heavily wooded area under lake Conroe which is now part of magnolia was just being built. Jones state forest was a bit bigger than it is now and at the time the last completely undeveloped area on 1488, and although I would have never guessed anything paranormal would happen there I suppose it makes sense that any creature from nearby forests during all of the destruction would have fled there. It is the only reason I could possibly think of why a bigfoot would be in such a tiny sliver of woodland right next to suburbia unless they prefer to live there and feast on stray pet communities haha. And later I would learn from several people that 1488/magnolia had once been somewhat of a hotspot with a family of bigfoot in the area! I can share the stories I have heard from others if you like but I’m sure you are already pretty bored of this story by now lol.
As for my actual encounter it was in mid October of that year at about 8:30pm (I never documented this so date and time are from memory) and it was still light enough out to see very well biking home through the woods. October is still summer in Texas so it doesn’t start getting dark at that time until later in the year but I was definitely using up the last few minutes of light at that hour it starts to get dark quickly. Anyway I notice what I thought was a man in a ghillie suit following just behind me on my right, naturally I biked for a few more minutes before reacting to confirm I was actually being targeted before I threw my bike to the ground fists clenched and ready to tell them to leave but not as nicely lol. But my boiling hot blood ran ice cold when I realized it was no way a person, standing at about 8 feet or taller. I am a very unreliable judge of metrics but It was about a foot taller than the yaupon shrubs that grow in the thicket we have down here and those are NOT short!
I know because it tried to hide behind the yaupon but its head was staring at me over the tree lol. What happened was after I jumped off my bike and finally got that good look at it, it ducked behind a skinny pine that did nothing to conceal it so it then moved behind the scrawny but bushier holly trees so that i could clearly see it behind and above the tree. We stared at each other for several minutes until I came to my senses and tore out of there on my bike. I pretty much booked it home never looking back to see if it gave chase. I had been jamming to music in my headphones through the entire ordeal which is probably why I didn’t hear I was being followed at first and I have no idea if it made any noise because when i saw it I was too panicked to waste time fiddling by taking my earphones out. I didn’t smell anything that I noticed. Also I was very relaxed and happy listening to tunes biking home through the trees like every night, I was in no way jumping at shadows or looking for anything to be scared of, the whole ordeal caught me off guard.
I would like to talk about the way that it looked and moved. When I first noticed it from the side of my peripheral I assumed it was a man and wondered to myself what they could be up to wearing a costume, it was the only logical thing to think. I even thought they could be on a stilts. But I will say it moved nothing like a man or anyone on stilts lol, it had a smooth, athletic lumbering gait like when a monkey walks on two legs but more man like than a monkey because it stayed on two legs the whole time completely upright and the way its knees bent was much more like a man. When I observed it for the few minutes in the tree line just to my right I could tell it was walking at such a pace to keep just a few yards behind me on a bike. It was very efficient the way it walked, more than humans who take smaller strides. I knew it looked big for a human when I was biking but didn’t notice exactly how tall it was because I never turned my head all the way until I stopped.
When I stopped and saw it better, It was too black in color for me to even make out any facial features in the evening light even though I was relatively close. it was a very dark black just like a gorilla with a pointed head just like they have but much more flat it didn’t have a muzzle or snout that extends out like a gorilla as far as I could tell. The only remarkable thing I actually saw about the head besides its pointed forehead was the texture of its fur, it was completely covered in thick and fuzzy fur like a gorilla or a bear. Honestly as far as animals it could have been it would be closest to a gorilla from the head up but its body was anatomically like a man as well as it being longer and leaner. It did not seem at all like a bear and there are no bears where I live in Texas.
To me it actually looked like the perfect image of bigfoot you would see in a commercial or something and although I thought it matched I didn’t believe it was that either since I didn’t think there were bigfoot in Texas. To be honest after I saw it wasn’t a man and nothing else made sense I actually believed I was looking at the devil or some black beast from hell. After staring for a few minutes I definitely felt a sense of dread like the devil had come for me or some creature from hell, it was definitely a paranormal feeling!”

Thanks for the description of the area, and ever expanding area of Metro Houston. Seems so many people want to move to Texas and those outer northern areas of great pines are being cut down. I hope they never do in Jones State Park for good. A good bet is it followed the Rice branch of the San Jacinto River from the north down to this forested park. I would like for you to bring more details on an interview, especially with witnessing it for what you state is a few minutes in a type of stare down.
