A listener writes “Hey Wes, I was squirrel hunting at my deer camp. And it was the opening day of squirrel season so no one was deer hunting at my deer camp. We have deer stands in multiple different properties we own.
On this certain property we owned there were 7 stands and the property is about the radius of 4 miles.
Anyways I woke up early and I grabbed my 12 gauge shotgun and my shell belt and walked down one of the deer lanes and sat down next to a white oak tree about 15 yards off the lane. It was still dark but you could see silhouettes of things. I was sitting under the white oak tree waiting to see the squirrels in the trees around me. It was about 530 in the morning.
In my peripherals I could see something moving in the far side of the deer lane. I then looked towards it. And I couldn’t make out anything because it was so dark. About after 45 seconds of staring at this object I saw what looked like a huge man run across the lane (the deer lane is about 10-15 yards wide). It made no noise when it did it either. My heart sank to my chest.
The thing that scared me the most was that there wasnt anyone around for at least 2 miles. It was the feeling of helplessness. After me sitting there for about 5 minutes trying to tell myself that it was just my eyes playing tricks on me. I heard a grunt. It was maybe 10 yards away from me. All I had was a 12 gauge remington 870 with squirrel shot. I jumped up and fired a shit towards where I heard it and started running through the woods. And then finally ran to my truck and got out of there I have not been back since. And I’m sure that some people who will see this will say “why was he scared he had a gun” and to that I would say if you saw how big that thing was you wouldn’t be saying that anymore. I had been doing alot of research in the past 8 months trying to figure out what I saw then I came across your website.”

I don’t go camping because that usually consists of spending the night outside in a rural area or woods. When the sun goes down, I go home…. I don’t ever want to have a nighttime encounter like this poor guy ?

If someone jumped up and fired a shit at me, I’d run too!?

Hahaha I caught that too. Spit my cheerios right outta my mouth! ?

That 870 with squirrel shot probably wasn’t enough gun to take it down, but it’s was better than nothing.

This is the reason why I don’t camp or walk in the woods anymore. Don’t want to see or meet anything in the woods that could kill me.Thanks but No Thanks! This gentleman was smart enough to know that he was in dangerous territory and it was time to get the hell outta dodge!
