Hunter’s daytime encounter

This was sent to me by a listener:
“I was out deer hunting around Greenwater, WA for a couple of days this last fall. I was out really early in the morning, deep down on a logging road. I had sat down off the road about 50 feet or so and was just sort of listening for things as daybreak was approaching. It was a bit hazy and crisp. It was slowly getting light out and all of a sudden I started hearing these footfalls from down the road, around the curve from where I was.

The falls were too heavy to be a bear and it wasn’t a “hooved” sound. I waited and was anxious to see what it was, when out from around the corner, I saw something that I will never forget. It was a large hairy person on two legs, must have been about seven feet or so and was walking right down the logging road. It never noticed me (I don’t think) and just walked around this bend and down the road fairly briskly. From where I was sitting down (about 50 feet from the road, with my back against a tree), it walked toward me for about 20 seconds, then I watched it continue walking down the road for about 2 minutes were it went out of site around another curve.

Never been a believer or put much thought into bigfoot. I have heard tales and stories from some of my buddies and their friends but never had a sighting personally. I wasn’t frightened or worried about this whole event. Just sort of awe-struck and curious and I just continued hunting and kept my mouth shut about this. I was just wondering if anyone else out there has ever had something strange like this happen to you in Washington? I’ve been pretty quiet about my whole thing until now.”

What, just Washington? How about every state in the U.S. Go back and start at episode No. 1, and work up to present. Then you will no longer wonder if anyone else out there has ever had something strage like this happen. WOW!!! What a guy.

You don’t believe in it and one shows up and your in awe? Not scared eh? Yeh right, I would rather see a space ship with ten Aliens land and jump of it than a seven foot tall thing that could rip me to pieces… I can surmise that seeing one of these things rattles you to the core, and can be really disturbing to your world view…I don’t by this story…….

I like the report. He was sitting up against a tree, not light yet, and it never looked at him. I’d like to have heard more detail, but probably too dark. Hunters don’t react like I would, for sure.

    Hey all,….
He told his story, like we’re are open to do… Without judgement or criticism.
Isn’t this the place to come for that?
Yet still, people judge, and justify their judgements.
I thought SC was an open and supportive format with open minded individuals capable of keeping their critiques to themselves.
    Just a reminder.

  5. Jan W

I liked the report and would like to hear more about it. Sounds like some of his buddies may have seen or heard things too. Glad he reported it.

Yes I agree this is the place to tell your stories without ridicule, but people should be able to express their opinions without being attacked for it. I for sure do not believe every story I have heard on here. I am a “knower” and SC has helped me tremendously. I think I am more at ease with what happened thanks to Wes and Woody.

    • Andrew L

Tom B, you DO realize that you’re not particularly defending the right to voice an opinion, just defending the right to criticize, which is more or less a passive attack, right? So you’re saying someone should be able to criticize without being criticized. You DO realize that, right? I’m not trying to police the site but just remember that this was at least INITIALLY created as a medium and sounding board for folks who have had an encounter to come and share their experiences, whether we actually believe them or not, without being criticized, ridiculed or ATTACKED. That’s what James B was trying to get across. Kind of defeats the initial purpose if this site if we feel free to throw stones at anyone we please, albeit a verbal one and in a passive fashion. People should be cooler about this stuff.

I liked the report as well.None of us are experts rather enthusiast’s and or researchers or both.If someone doesn’t believe his story that’s your problem. We aren’t here to pass judgement,we are here to listen to stories, share are own, compare and gain knowledge about these mysterious creatures.Do we really need to jump all up in this guys face?Everyone on this site just went thru all of that crap with mudslinging on behalf of the hosts,it was ugly, give the guy some respect,if its not true its not true but he lives with it.I wanna hear more of his story but with ridicule the poor guy may never talk again.

  8. Matt f

Whats funny about greenwater is if you drive thru small town in front of general store there is 9ft carving of sasquatch on main hiway, you cant miss it.

  9. Dave T

I think there’s a lot more stories out there just like this one. Sounds like an awesome encounter and there’s probably more details to it. Some people don’t freak out or piss themselves at the sight of one of these creatures especially if you have a large caliber firearm resting across your lap. Hopefully more guys like this come forward and don’t have worry of the ridicule that can go along with telling an encounter.

And then they will say, Ge I wonder why nobody wants to tell there story ??? Because people in the Bigfoot Community gang up like packs of wolves and tear there storys apart that’s why! The guy takes the time to share his story there’s no profit in it for him but he stuck his neck out and told his story and sure enough he was taught a lesson. Keep your story to your self or you will be called a Lier. Is this really the message we want to send ???

  11. NW Mike

This guy said he never spoke to anyone about what he saw. That was probably to avoid being called a liar. His story sounds believable to me. I live, hunt, hike and camp in Washington. I have heard many people start to tell me about their encounter and then clam up. Nobody likes to be called a fool, a liar, or worse after seeing something that shook their worldview. We don’t have to believe everything posted here, but try not to be too harsh in the critique.

First of all I am a hunter, I hunt only at night for coyotes, I am always well armed.. However when you are alone in the woods by your self, and you encounter a creature that is not supposed to exist, a normal person would be tend to be frightened.
Maybe I should have been a little more clear, I meant to say I did not buy that he was not scared, ..that’s all…I did not say he did not see what he saw. I also did not demean the man in anyway… I am sorry if he or any of you took it that way….This forum is for discussion and critical thought is it not? While I do believe in the existence of this creature I must be skeptical and give thought before I accept an encounter recollection…..
PS who the heck is Renee????

    • Steven B

      Hi Shannon, ummmmmmmm…

Renee is the great “skeptic” on the “Finding Bigfoot” team. If a Hungry, Hungry Harry came and did a dump in her shirt pocket while she slumbered, she’d find a way to doubt it. In her defense, however, I’ve heard that “off-camera” she is quite personable, quite likeable, and doesn’t come off so “know-it-all”.

      Please don’t shoot this messenger…I’m a hunter too. 😉

      Cheers
      Steve, RGV TX

Mabe just maybe it’s the truth. If not he’s the only one that knows for sure. . We can all be septic already. .. And nice.. or corgell to his storey… see that’s HARD…

Thanks for posting the link about the jogger found, Kenneth. That is so sad and so awful! There is no way I believe this young man took a detour, got lost, and fell in a boulder field – what utter nonsense! This scenario is playing out over and over again in wilderness areas across the globe, and when a person is found, the reaction from the authorities is to close the books and move along. Governments should be all over these cases, especially after Paulides has put so many together for them, with the who, when, and where’s. Families are usually too traumatized to demand a REAL investigation into how the incident happened, but it is occurring way too often and something needs to be done to stop it. Not sure what, but maybe hidden cameras placed on trails in known hot spots for starters.

    • Steven B

The “Gooberment” IS all over these cases…covering them up, putting up obstructions in the way of those who do investigate (sometimes these are even local law enforcement)., generally covering whatever these slimeballs do not want to come to light. There have been a handful of interviews here that point exactly to this. Weep for our nation, Jan, for it has fallen a long ways from what our Constitution and Bill of Rights were designed to protect. But then again, why would godless men abide by “God-given” natural rights? For them it has become “We the Nation (at any cost)” and “We the PEOPLE” be damned…

    • Janet B

Jan W and Ken…I sure agree with you…this one is classic for Paulides.

If nothing else, at least Paulides’ keeps it in the media (whether thru his books or otherwise), and hopefully, at some
point in the not to distant future, at least some of the families will get some closure.

Thanks for the link Kenneth M. I cannot be the only one too see the story (same
cbc page link to Liang Jin missing in Jan 2015)……..found in Feb in a boulder field. Some vague suggestion of the hiker possibly having fallen from a height. It didn’t sound as though the cliff was nearby. These are both recent events here in my home province. First I’d heard of either incident.

Looking for patterns in behaviours has brought much of the knowledge we do have about sasquatch/
forest people. Linking together the behaviours into patterns is bringing us closer to knowing and this sight has provided me some really critical and pivotal insights. I’ve been “in the field” for a decade now have identified a local research area, done investigations, expeditions in groups and alone and I have done the reading (most of the published literature* and much of the web**). This SC posting and the link Kenneth M provided in the comments gives me another connection/pattern to explore.

This is the good work that Wes et al intended in the launch of SC. Too bad repeated reminders are necessary to those needing to “be the first” to comment or to sling their personal negative judgement at the offerings of SC and the witness/stories/blog/podcast. The reminder is this: It is not about YOU. Your otherwise uninformed unsupported opinion does not matter here.

Too bad this effort is repeatedly required but it is. Perhaps this too is some of “the good work”….?

To all who attend and contribute to this site for the good reasons, keep up the good work. It is more valuable than we can even know at this time. I have had some spine tingling “aha” moments triggered by info found here. I appreciate it deeply. mj

    • Carol S

You do realize that the “first” posts are our way of poking fun at some other bigfoot sights and all who post here are helping by paying membership allowing this site to continue it’s good work–seriously not trying to be a douche ☺☺

  16. jadescope

added info……..forgot to add to above post

    * I have read most of the pubished literature EXCEPT the David Paulides Missing 411 series. I do have and use info, interview techniques from his Hoopa Project book. I did not receive any DP books at Birthday, Christmas, Mothers Day……so will be getting them for myself soon.

** I have logged way toooooo many hours at the computer sorting and sifting through the good and the bad. I devote some time each day to a handful of “regular and reasonably reliable” sources. I follow links and leads as I can. That is how I found SC a few months ago. As I said critical and pivotal moments have sprung upon me while taking in the offerings here.

Greenwater Wash. is the area where “Barb and Gabby” are chronicling a gifting site and other features via video and audio. I don’t agree fully with their methods but I check in on the YouTube site every month or so because the opportunity to follow developing patterns is available. I get the sense Barb works at the general store. mj

Steve, Thanks for enlightening me on “Renee” ( I have watched the show, but only to see what they are using for night vision technology)LOL!! Okay one thing about this story above that I do find interesting and should be kept in mind by all of us, if we are in the woods. The hunter said that he thought the creature did not notice him, and this could be the case.. But given that these creatures have their senses honed, they have the awareness of their surroundings that a coyote has, and they seem to have more than basic cognitive reasoning ability. I would be thinking as it went out of site that it just may get out of site and double back on me….
I believe these creatures behavior socially is the same as the Eastern Coyote, and the Wolf. They are very territorial, they can be very vocal at night, they seam to be family group orientated with a alpha male and female pair that seem to rule the group. They also seem to hunt the same using the terrain to their advantage, hunting in groups they can flank or encircle the prey for the ambush.
They may not have the sense of smell, hearing or sight of a coyote but they do have basic reasoning skills in my opinion, other wise we would have them in zoos…
With regard to being scared if I saw one, I think I would really have a hard time shooting one unless it was in an extreme kill or be killed situation, but I could see hesitating do to fact that your brain will be asking “but is it human?” It is something we must grapple with given that some encounters have been close to deadly, and then there are the ones we don’t know about because the person who is found dead in the woods, crushed and battered is not talking.. Be careful all!!

    • Steven B

You’re welcome Shannon. Yeah – I’ve hunted yodel dogs a couple of times (daylight)…really cagey – I’ve noticed that I have better “luck” with having them come in when I’m just out deer hunting or for turkey – I had one mangy one come in to 15 yards when I was trying to call in a turkey that I had sighted. Too close for my comfort and my shotgun just had #5 shot 3″ mag turkey loads in it so I didn’t want to shoot it unless it decided I really looked like “lunch meat”. It seems though, once they commit – they commit on the run and come right in. Miss him on the first shot and I’ll say that is one wild moving target you got afterwards. 😉

I would think that due to its harsh life style, evolution of this species would point to a “rut”so that the young would be born in the spring when its easier to find food.I would guess that fetal devlopment would be the same as humans or more? So that would put the “rut” mid or early summer… Any thoughts on breading times and behavior?

Hey Steven- believe me, I do weep for our nation and am sure the founding fathers are rolling over in their graves, as we have taken many a step they warned us not to take. But I love SC, as it is a great diversion from the worries of everyday life. And I am a true believer in BF!
