Ryan Nega writes “I have been uploading my various recordings over the past few months trying to pinpoint the origin of a number of howls I hear on a regular basis out here. Odd things every now and then, but since the beginning of December, things have gotten a bit stranger.
I’ve been also recording a series of “stone clacking” like sounds that occur outside my house almost every night now. I have no idea what is producing them or where they are coming from, hopefully, it’s just a matter of time…”

Be careful. Don’t go alone and be armed. If they are fighting among themselves or with another group they could be aggressive.

I also recorded the same rock clanking sounds here in central Pennsylvania. I had posted them to this forum a while ago. It is the exact sound as what you’ve recorded. I will repost them again later this weekend. Thank you for sharing your recordings

I was at my camp out in the Maine woods a few weeks ago and heard the same clacking. Always being attentive, I figured it was a tree creaking with the wind, or was it? The next morning, I hear a deer blowing and snorting not far off. I looked out the side window of the camp and there’s a single doe deer, standing about 50′ away, facing the direction of where the clacking had been heard before, just ah snortin ‘n blowin. I couldn’t see anything over yonder. Yet, the deer just walked off, looking over there all the while till it disappeared into the spruce/firs. Just another odd occurrence of many out there. I think, Squatch, is making mouth noises with it’s tongue. The same for tree knocks, could be mouth noise.

Does that clacking sound like someone or something percussion knapping some type of stone?
If I close my eyes and listen, I can see a friend knapping. I’ve watched him for long periods, even the cadence fits.
Due to the circumstances described, I think it’s BF generated, in some way.
Maybe, look for chips ?

Or could the clacking be deer or elk related, knocking antlers?
