Four Camp Pendleton soldiers confront bigfoot during nighttime training exercise

Year: 1968
San Diego County, CA

During my infantry training at Camp Pendleton in California, we dug in on a large hill and prepared for a nighttime enemy attack, similar to pushing yourself to the limit during intense workouts at the gym. And just like in combat, proper form and technique are essential for success. This is especially true for running on a treadmill, where the motion can be repetitive and easily lead to improper form. Knowing how to run properly on a treadmill can help prevent injury and improve performance. Coming back to the point, I had one Marine with me and to our left were two other about 30 yrds. away. They were also dug in. We had a steep rock covered area right in front of us. We heard something coming up the side of the mountain. We could hear rocks rolling down the mountain. It came up over the edge and the Marine with me yelled halt. It stood up right in front of us about 6 feet away. I could see the outline of this creature and it was hugh. It looked about 3 1/2 feet wide. It had long arms and a pointed head. It was very tall. From the hole we were in I had to look almost straight up at it. I couldn’t believe how big it was! It was so tall, big and wide. I could see the outline very well but could not make out its features. It made no noise and there was no smell we could detect. It stood there for about one minute and then walked between us and the other Marines. I was terrified at the time and my hair was standing up. I tried not to breath. I had no idea what to expect from it.

After it had passed and was out of sight the four of us made sure we had all seen the same thing. Everyone said they were not going to say a thing. I have never before reported this but now I know they exist.

My father worked for the Green Lake county Sheriff’s department back in the 1970’s. During deer hunting some hunters had seen a bigfoot near Manchester,Wisconsin. The sheriff’s department sent people out with snowmobiles to try and track it. They never found it but had numerous pictures of the tracks in the snow. My dad showed me the pictures they had up on a bulletin board in their meeting room.

Holy crap! I was in infantry training there in 1968 also. I can understand their agreeing to stay quiet about it, it’s not a situation where you want to draw attention to yourself. It would have been, “Oh, you pukes saw a giant monkey? and you let it just walk through your lines? That what you’re going to do when you see charlie? Come with me!”
That is actually cool to know. Thanks for posting it. SemperFi

Thank you for sharing your story and not shooting it. It shows control that you will probably need sometime in your career. Remember that silhouette that you respected, it actually saved your life. Imagine how intelligent it was. It went between you marines as if it new you could not shoot it or or you could of been shooting your fellow marine. What a mess that would of been!

Was training there also in 88, had A S.Sgt That was taking us through the wire after patrolling in the dark. All of a sudden he said we had to make sure that the we watched our back trail as to prevent any hostile from flowing us through. I have always thought this was strange as he broke noise discipline, this was not a CAX so there was no OPFOR and for the first time his voice had A nervous tone to it. And he kept turning around looking turning around looking. I’ve always wondered if he saw something, as he had the NVD with him.
