Foot Impressions In The Descutes

A listener writes “My wife, Sara, and I were hiking the West Metolius River Trail near Camp Sherman today (3/26/26) around 10:00 AM. It was about 34°F along the river when I noticed a set of unusual footprints. There were actually four impressions in total, but this one photographed the best the others were even larger.

I used my boot for scale (about 8 inches) and measured the stride with my hiking pole. The smaller print had a stride of at least 4.5 feet. Sara even placed her fingers into the toe marks and could clearly feel the indentations, similar to footprints left in wet sand at the beach.

Before we left, we tried to recreate the impressions with our own boots in the same area, but we couldn’t make any noticeable indentations at all.

I just wanted to share this experience with you and also say that we love your show. Keep up the great work!”

This is a really nice find, congratulations. It could be the way the camera photographs, but this looks to be a bit wider compared to the length than most tracks. However sometimes this is the case.
