A listener writes “I imagine you get tons of emails a day so I’ll make this short and sweet and hopefully you’ll get back to me and if not, I understand.
I will list my little encounter, I will share my fathers encounter and also my uncles and my native culture beliefs of Sasquatch. I’ve always believed in them without a doubt as I’ve grown up with my elders talking about them.
In my Nlaka’pamux (N-cuh-clup-mux) Culture we talk about them being old medicine men who would go up to the mountains and go on their “Journey” and “fast”. Which means they would go up the mountains by themselves and not eat but only drink water for days till they receive a “vision” of their purpose in life or how to help our nation but they wouldn’t come back and they would stay out there till they became old.
Now my fathers encounter, he was up the mountain chasing wild horses, they took a turn that he didn’t expect and they went a different direction and which he lost them and it was getting dark so he decided to head back home. On his way down the mountain his horse got a little spooked and he heard something on the right side of him coming down and it was paralleling him. He wasn’t sure what it was so he wanted to get to the clearing at the bottom of the hill, he described it as the scene from “Man from Snowy River” as fast as his horse would go it would still be next to him busting branches and heavy steps. He got to the clearing and it stopped following him, he was curious about what it was so he waited with his 30.30 lever action Winchester. He waited but it didn’t come out, he went and looked for tracks but no tracks to be seen.
My uncles encounter, he was very young. I believe he was 6 while his brother was 4. They stayed in a old railroad house which was 2 stories high but also not very big. My uncle woke up to his brother looking out the window and talking.. not talking English but our native tongue. They never learned their native language due to obvious reasons in the past. My uncle asked his brother what he was doing and his brother said “This man wants me to go outside and play.. he said it’s okay” and he got up to walk out the door. My uncle looked out the window, now they lived in a coal house so all the windows were blackened due to the coal. He had to look close at it and he was face to face with sunken in red eyes, wide cheek bones, canine but square looking teeth with a conical shaped head. He turned to his brother which was almost out the room and he tackled him and said “No you’re staying here” and his brother replied with “No, it’s okay. He said it was safe” and he looked out the window and it was gone.
My encounter, this was in 2016. During spring, my friends and I decided to take a trip up to the lake. It was a decent ways away from town, takes about 35 minutes from town on a dirt road. It was a Tuesday, also we didn’t decide to head up till it was late because we couldn’t sleep. It was around 1AM, we got up to the lake and we made a little fire. There was 5 of us, my friend Dawson, Wyatt, Denny, Carter and myself. Dawson looked at me and asked “you believe in Sasquatch don’t you? You know how to make those calls? You should try it” as a joke. So I said “Yeah I can probably give it a try, right now?” And so I proceeded to give it a go. Now keep in mind it’s 1AM, I did a call and then everything went silent. You couldn’t hear crickets or frogs or nothing. I heard a call back on the other side of the lake, there’s no way a vehicle can get on the other side of the lake as our side was the only camping and access point. On the other is nothing but swamp and trees grown in, we got a little excited and scared and looked at each other. We waited a little longer and then we heard it again or another one which was much closer and only I’d say half way from us and the first call we heard. Then my friends got spooked and all jumped in our trucks and peeled out of there. We couldn’t see any lights that direction or a fire that was lit indicating if something was there.”
