A listener writes “Hey Wes…. I’ve been listening to your show now for a few months on your YouTube channel and finally decided to write about my brief sighting of a creature while bow hunting about 16 yrs ago in central Illinois on private farm property which bordered Coffeen State Park in Montgomery County.
I had just the day before sat up my tree stand in an area I had not hunted before so the next morning I was really looking forward to getting there early before day break so I could get settled in and hope get a shot on a deer.
It was on a creek bend and very thick with brush. I found my tree and had started getting my things ready so I could pull them up to my stand after I climbed it but in the darkness And something started moving on the other side of this creek bend a snapping twigs, which I thought was a deer. Then something big growled at me in the deepest guttural sound I’ve never heard before.
I don’t know what it was but I had never heard anything like this before and it scared the living bujeezuz out of me so I hurried up the tree pulled my bow up and quickly knocked an arrow so I could hopefully protect myself. In Illinois you are not allowed to carry a side arm while bow hunting so all i had was my bow and hunting knife with me.
Nothing happened the rest of the morning so maybe whatever this was had a den or burrow in the side of this creek bed and decide that I wasn’t a threat and all was quiet. So when the day finally broke I decided I didn’t want to stay around this area to see what this was so I took my portable stand down and moved on to another spot then set it up again. I felt I need to get out of there for the rest of the day so I didn’t come back until the next day. As I was sitting in this tree, I had taken my biggest buck out of a few years back, I noticed something moving along the creek, which is just run off from the farm fields into a natural watershed area, and it was covered with tall grass and buck brush with open areas along the creek where you could see and get off a shot if a deer were to come along.
This dark brown creature on all fours was was moving along this creek pretty silent and stealthy so if I wasn’t looking I would not have seen it. It had about 6 inches of straight brown hair with auburn streaks on top of its head which seemed to be parted down the middle of its scalp and its body was and it was low to the ground and really bulked up like a muscled up wolverine or badger. This thing was much bigger than either of those critters. It was around 5-6 ft in length. It had a muzzle on it like a bear or animal like that and its front legs or arms? were bowed like a big bull dog. Its body was covered with shorter hair than what was on its head but the same in color.
Needless to say I didn’t see any deer in this area the rest of the day so I was finished for the day. The very next day my hunting partner was in a different area just north of where I was set up the day before and he had seen this critter walk across the corner of the field which was bordering the area we hunt and he looked at it through field glasses but couldn’t make out the face or what it was because he had never seen anything like it before either.
This was the last time we saw this thing at the end of our weekend hunting trip we stopped by the park office to tell the park ranger, who we knew pretty well because we had been hunting this area for the past ten years, about what me and my partner had seen. He listened to our story and didn’t bat an eye in disbelief or doubt but had know idea of what this animal could have been.
There are no known badgers or wolverines in our part of the state so I looked at all the information I could find about those two animals and neither looked even close to what this animal looked. Soon after this I became less interested in killing deer because I was the only one in my family that ate venison. Till this day I still don’t have any idea what this could have been but hearing the stories on from your show got me to thinking along the lines of a possible Sasquatch or dogman like creature.?…
Thanks for what you do to allow folks an avenue to talk about the things have seen and can’t explain or are afraid to talk about.”

Sounds like a dogman or possible a type 3 Bigfoot that has a snout. Thanks for sharing
