Encounter from Raleigh, NC 1970s

A listener writes “My husband asked me to recount our family Bigfoot story for you. In the mid 1970’s, on a rural dirt road where we lived in Raleigh, NC, my younger brother and I were playing hide and seek. My brother was “it”, so I went to hide behind a lilac bush near the road.

I peeked out and could see my brother finish counting, yell “Ready or not, here I come!”, and begin searching for me. He crossed the dirt road and stepped into the edge of the woods. Thirty seconds later, he turned, white-faced, and ran back up to the house. I thought he was trying to trick me into revealing my hiding place, so I stayed put. After five minutes, I gave up and went to the house. Inside, I saw my brother crying hysterically on my mother’s lap. When he was calm enough to speak, he told us what happened.

He had heard a rustling in the undergrowth in the woods. He thought it was me, so he put his hand behind his ear to hear better and said, “Diana, I hear you!” He turned to look and saw two, huge, brown, hairy feet with claws. He ran away.

That same night, my parents were sitting outside after dark, and heard loud screams from the woods. They smelled a terrible odor in the air. They went inside and locked the doors, something they never did. We believe Bigfoot was passing through the area, to this day.

If you’d like to talk more, please let me know. Thanks for your time.”

(New Jersey) Great story!! Yet another encounter- this time from the 70’s !!-which may never have seen the light of day were it not for Sasquatch Chronicles, and the venerable Wes Germer.

Wes, like Glen K I know stories like this would have no safe haven if it were not for Sasquatch Chronicles. When I was in northern Ontario, Ashweig river system, 100 miles south of Polar Bear National Park, I was sitting in afreighter canoe facing my Cree guide and saw his face turn white as we approached an island in the river. I said Leon, what’s wrong and he dropped his head in shame then looked me in the eye and said, “Mr. Kenny I’ve fished with you for 5 days now, you are a good man, but I need to ask you a question, do you believe in Bigfoot? Knowing I was so far from civilization, the question freaked me out, this was 2015, but I said yes. And he said, that island is his, and we call him Mr. Foot. He then told us of three encounters he had with him that I know I would have never have heard if I didn’t provide the right openness for discussion. Thanks again, all my best, Kenny H

We did not stay on that island, actually we were supposed to camp on an island about a half mile further up, but the guides talked us out of it. To the west of the island was a marsh, and he was calling moose, imitating a young male moose, and he heard what he thought was a moose approaching him he raised his rifle and it turned a corner it was Mr. foot who when he saw it was Leon got angry and roared/yelled at him. I asked him if he took a shot at him and he said, “No, no… This is his land, we are told by our elders if you encounter him, put your head down and back away.” Now this was long before Finding Bigfoot and I said to him, you and your band, they don’t say tribe they say band and your people are very poor, if you know he’s here you could make money proving he exists and show the world. He said no this is his, we would’ not do that. I asked him if that was why he had a rifle in the back of the canoe and he said there are a lot of things I need to protect you from out here. So I kind of got the heebie-jeebies over that one.

(New Jersey) Very interesting. Thanks Kenny. It kind of reminds me of Tom Sewid and his feelings about Sasquatch that he learned from his elders. They also respect and revere Bigfoot. I recall his being on a boat with friends, and they spotted several Bigfoot on a beach. They had a lot of fire power with them, and Tom said he had one in his sights, but Did Not shoot. In fact, Tom leads expeditions to try and find Bigfoot and/or signs of Bigfoot. However, he has no intention of harming one.You have to respect the wisdom of the First Nations People.

Up til that trip, I thought that Sasquatch was a possibility, but when you look into the eyes of someone who has experienced it, and you see his truth coming through, it changes you. I remember saying to myself “holy cow!! This guy is for real, he’s telling the truth!” And he was a little apprehensive with me too. Ever since then I’ve scoured the internet looking for info. We had one portage to make where the rapids got crazy and I remember carrying the equipment and hearing my footsteps echo and stopping and wondering what they could be echoing against. Strange. This wAs the second year this camp was open, and not many went as far up as we did, virgin waters the fish were fat and sluggish, we were catching 4 lb plus brook trout!! Crazy.
